This document discusses the use of ASTM A 519, Grade 1026 material in a Code approved vessel. It replies that while material produced under an ASTM specification can be designated as complying with a corresponding ASME specification if they are identical, ASTM A 519 does not meet these requirements and cannot be used in Code construction. The interpretation was issued on January 18, 1977 in response to a question about using ASTM A 519, Grade 1026 material in a Code approved vessel.

Question: May ASTM A 519, Grade 1026 material be used in a Code approved vessel?
Reply: Material should be produced and documented to an ASME specification.
Material produced under an ASTM specification may be designated as complying with a corresponding ASME specification providing the ASME specification is shown to be identical with the ASTM specification for the grade, class, or type produced and providing the material is confirmed as complying with the ASTM specification by material test report or certification of compliance from the material manufacturer. Since ASTM A 519 material does not comply with the above requirements it cannot be used in Code construction.
