Passing Practices

Building Up Play from the Back with Various

Passing Combinations

Objective
To practice building up play from the back with different combinations.

Description
We start this practice with 2 goalkeepers at the same time with combinations going right and left.

Combination A (as shown on the left side of the diagram) starts with the goalkeeper’s pass to the centre back (5)
who checks away from the cone and moves diagonally to receive. The centre back plays it wide to the right back
(2) and the attacking midfielder/second striker (10) drops back. The right back plays a 1-2 combination with the
No.10 and the right back tries to score in the mini goal by chipping the ball over the big goal.

Combination B (as shown on the right side of the diagram) starts with the goalkeeper’s pass to the defensive
midfielder (6). The defensive midfielder passes the ball to the No.10, who lays the ball off to the left back. The left
back has checked away from the cone and moves to score in the goal.

Create Combination C in collaboration with your players. This will help develop their creativity.

How to Win: Play the sequence 20 times and the players must score 15 goals to win.
