I am excited to announce the dramatic play center is changing
into a campsite! We will be building math, literacy, science, and social skills during our pretend play!
Students can pretend to be a camper and go camping with their
family. The campers can pack, set up the campsite, build a fire, cook over the fire, have a picnic, roast marshmallows, eat s’mores, sing songs around the fire, and sleep in a tent.
Students will be building various math and literacy concepts
during their PLAY! When they pack, they will be counting items and reading the labels. When they make s’mores, they will be sequencing. When they go on a hike or nature walk they will be writing and drawing about nature. When students go fishing, they will be measuring, sorting, and counting their fish. Students will be communicating their wants, needs, and ideas with their peers developing their oral language skills the entire time!
During pretend play, students will be developing MANY social skills
too! Here are some skills they will be working on: • Self regulation • Turn taking • Sharing • Waiting • Controlling their impulses • Expressing their feelings and ideas through appropriate gestures, actions, and words • Problem solving
Support your child’s pretend play
by going camping! You can go camping inside your home, in the backyard, or at a real campsite! They can be a real camper and experience everything first hand! Pocket of Preschool
