What are your top three takeaways from John Green’s course, Navigating Digital Information?

Explain why each of these takeaways is important when conducting internet research/using the
internet to acquire information.
I learned many new things through John Green’s course. One of the biggest takeaways I
have from his course is the importance of lateral reading. This is important because it helps
uncover the truth of certain information, in which vertical reading cannot always do. Another
thing I learned is that Wikipedia can be a reliable source. Many fact-checkers use Wikipedia in
order to familiarize themselves with an unknown topic. The user just needs to look for certain
alerts such as Wikipedia pages being written as advertisements or Wikipedia pages not listing
sources. Lastly, I learned the importance of reverse image searching certain images or videos.
Some photos or videos are not as reliable as they appear; thus, it is important to trace down the
images origin to see if it has been doctored.

What are your top three takeaways from your time implementing the state’s social distancing
initiatives (learning from home)?Explain why this was an important idea to learn.
A takeaway I have from implementing my time at home is the importance of discipline. It
is important for me to not only keep my grades up in school by keeping myself accountable, but
also trying to stay fit for soccer. Another takeaway I have learned is the importance of time
management. I have to manage my time accordingly, so that I can complete my school work and
still get my work outs in for soccer, along with completing all my chores at home. Lastly, I
learned the importance of not taking things for granted. There have been many times where I
have complained about being tired from either school or soccer. However, now I miss going to
my soccer practice and I miss being able to see my friends and teachers. This taught me that little
things in life really do matter, no matter how many times I may have complained about it.
