Respected Sir/Ma'am,

Warm Greetings!
I'm an undergraduate student at NIT Uttarakhand. Due to this worldwide pandemic, we are
stuck in our homes where we are suffering from a threat to life. Few of my colleagues are
facing great difficulty in managing their daily needs despite the huge efforts of our government.
They are economically not that much stable as most of them are below 1-lakh income. In this
time of pandemic where we are fearing even to bring one time of milk from outside our college
administration is trying to suppress us in every way (Administration deactivated group mail
ids for students to restrict contact/communication between their batchmates and other
students). They are imposing their thesis in this lockdown over us neglecting the difficulties
faced by us.
Some don't have any stationery with them, some can hardly charge their mobile phones in a
day or two, some are in remote areas of Leh and Laddakh and some are in mountainous terrains
of Uttarakhand where they can hardly manage the survival.
In this harsh scenario, our administration has planned to conduct online examinations ignoring
the aspects that there is not a fair chance for all. As some are in those harsh remote areas while
some are in urban cities too.

• Even then our administration is just acting to show care towards us.
• They listened to every problem of us but didn't react.
• They are just giving childish reasons like (setting an example for others by conduction
online exams in this pandemic) without even paying attention to our serious problems.
• Yesterday my colleagues who are living in villages got hurt by a violent storm.
Electricity poles are shattered, for 3-4 days power supply is cut off. Even then our
administration is worried only for the conduction of examinations.
• We suggested alternates to avoid the loss of our semester and the loss which our final
year seniors will face.
• We told them to evaluate this semester's end terms by previous records of students as
it is the most effective way to understand a student, but our administration is not even
paying heed over this.
• Despite many students, send their grievances before April about their situations due to
the COVID outbreak, the senate didn't consider their points. As well as we're all in
such an unprecedented situation that we will not predict unforeseen upcoming
circumstances that might generate because of some medical emergency, financial
crises, Local COVID Crises, Resources crises, etc.
• Some people have 2-3 laptops, with 100 Mbps broadband connection, while some are
struggling to get 100Kbps speed in 5-inch phone. Some have brothers/sisters with
engineering degrees while some are even not having a guarantee regarding the basic
needs (electricity and cellular network). Therefore, how online exams are fair for
students. Institute clearly violated the right to equality, favoring some privileged
people.
• Why don't our institute promote innovation culture during this time of crisis? ( As many
IITs & NIT's are constantly focusing on building new products which may help the
Indian government during this crisis.) Why are we only in a hurry to conduct
examinations? There are a lot of alternatives (i.e. guidelines prescribed by UGC &
MHRD) that may be adopted to resolve the final year issues as well as intermediate year
students' issues.
• As per minutes of the 19th Senate meeting, In compliance to agenda item no. S10.06
following students are proposed to be nominated as a special invitee in senate meeting
of NIT, Uttarakhand. 1) Ms. Mansi Kaintura (BT16EEE025), 2) Ms. Kanchan Bisht
(MT18CSE008), 3) Ms. Anita (DS16SCJ002). The Senate is requested to approve the
above nomination of the aforementioned Student Representative in the senate as a
special invitee for the Academic Year 2019-20. But as we can see in the 21st senate
meeting no student representative is there.
• As per the 10th senate meeting S10.06, "The UG/PG and Ph.D. students are bound by
the Academic rules of the Institution. The rules framed by the Senate have its
implications on the students directly. It is felt that at the stage where such rules are
being framed or being deliberated upon, the point of view of the students is very
crucial and therefore their voice should be heard. It is proposed to have one student
each from UG, PG, and Ph.D. stream, with the highest CGPA in final year B.Tech.,
final year M.Tech.and senior-most Ph.D.respectively, may be invited as a Special
Invitee in the Senate meetings."

We urge you to look into the matter and sort it out as early as possible.

Sir/Ma’am, if you don’t agree with our genuine problems then kindly give permission to
all students in red zones/orange zones/sealed homes to buy stationary items, books and
other essential items related to exam, also made proper arrangements of uninterrupted
electricity in remote locations.

Thanking you
Yours truly
NIT UTTARAKHAND Student
