INTERVIEW GUIDE
For The participants in the in-depth interview (IDI) and
Focus Group Discussion (FGD)

Preliminaries

Greetings Everyone!
I am glad that you are here today. Thank you for your willingness to participate in
my study. I am Mr. Edgar L. Manaran and I am here today to ask you some questions
whose answers will be used in my study entitled: “Heightening Teacher Motivation
through Transformational Leadership and Workplace Diversity in Public
Elementary Schools: An Explanatory Sequential Design
Please be informed that our session may last from 30 - 45 minutes. During our
session, you will be answering some questions regarding your personal experiences as
an educator in public elementary schools. However, you have the freedom whether to
answer or not to answer the questions that I will be asking. Rest assured that the
records of the interview would be kept with confidentiality. All the participants’ names
will be coded in order to hide their identity. Before the interview proper, you may ask
clarifications regarding the conduct of the interview.
In addition, I would like to inform that our conversation would be recorded so that
I will be able to transcribe every information correctly. If you wish to listen to the
recording after the session it would not be a problem. Furthermore, if you want to make
clarifications as regards to your answer, you may contact me through my mobile phone

Interview Proper
1. What is the status of transformational leadership, workplace diversity, and
teacher motivation within the organization as assessed by the participants?

Probe Questions:
 For transformational Leadership
1.1 Tell me about a time your school head took the lead in a team project. How
did he/she lead the team? What was the outcome of the project?
1.2 Tell me about a time that your school head’s idea improved the school in
some way. How did your school head make sure it was implemented?
1.3 How did your school head react on ASAP reports?
 For Workplace Diversity
1.2 Describe what is your understanding about diversity [inclusion] and why it is
important to you as a teacher.
1.2 What are some issues and concerns you have about working with diverse
workplace like in school?
1.3 Why do you think it’s important to address diversity and equity issues in your
workplace, and what are some ways you might do that?

 For Teacher Motivation


1.1 Describe the work environment or culture in which you are the most
productive, happy, and motivated.
1.2 In your experience as a teacher, what draws forth your discretionary energy
and effort, that willingness to go the extra mile, push harder, spend more
time, do whatever it takes to get the job done?
1.3 Describe the actions and behaviors of your school head that you respond to
most effectively?
1.4 What actions, behaviors, or workplace events that had happened which
limited or destroyed your workplace motivation?

2 What are the lived experiences of the participants on employee motivation as


influenced by transformational leadership and workplace diversity?

Probe Questions:

2.3 As a teacher of the Department of Education, how would you describe your
motivation in your workplace?

Follow-up Questions:
2.3.1 Can you expound your answer by citing experiences that made you
think that the transformational leadership style of your school head
can be a great factor that influence your motivation as a teacher.
2.3.2 What realization were formed because of these experiences?
2.3.3 Do you think that the diversity in the workplace can be a factor that
influences your motivation as a teacher? If yes, why? If no, why
not?
2.3.4 What important qualities do you expect from your leaders to
exemplify that would strengthen your motivation in the workplace?
2.3.5 Why do you think so?

Concluding Statements
1. Is there anything else you would like to say about our discussion/topic?
2. Likewise, Can I see you in the future in case I will need further clarifications
about your response/s in this interview?
