A Quantitative Research About the Effectiveness of AutoCAD as a Learning Tool as

Perceived by the Fifith Year Architecture Students of Bulacan State University

B. Research Objectives

This study aims to assess the capability of Computer-aided design (CAD) software –
AutoCAD as a learning tool on Architectural design education based on the perception of fourth
year architecture students of Bulacan State University.

Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions:

1. What is the perception of graduating architecture students on using AutoCAD in an

architecture learning curriculum?

2. What are the significant advantages and disadvantages of using AutoCAD prior to the
student’s competency as compared to using other CAD software and traditional drafting
techniques?

3. What impacts does AutoCAD software has on the overall quality of architectural design in all
of its stages (conceptual, design development, presentation)?

C. Research Terminologies

For purposes of better understanding of the content and context of this study and

in alignment with the perspective of the researcher, the key terms that will be used in this study

are defined conceptually and/or operationally.

Architecture is the art of planning and designing a buildings.. It requires technical

knowledge in the fields of engineering, logistics, geometry, building techniques, functional

design and ergonomics in order to fulfill both practical and expressive requirements, and thus

serve both utilitarian and aesthetic ends.

CAD or Computer-aided Design software is commonly used by architects, engineers,

drafters, artists, and others to create precision drawings or technical illustrations. CAD software

can be used to create two-dimensional (2-D) drawings or three-dimensional (3-D) models.

While, AutoCAD is the name of a professional CAD software which is created in 1982

by Autodesk, Inc. AutoCAD software is used in all phases of design for manufacturing,

infrastructure, and building construction. It can perform both 2-D and 3-D drawings/models.
