MATARAWA POETRY WRITING

AND WE STAYED AT HOME

Purpose for the lesson – why are we writing today?

We are writing to make sense of the world around us right now

We are using a model to guide writers
LEARNING FOCUS

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING

TODAY?
We are learning to recognize a
structure in a piece & what impact
deliberate structure can have.

We are learning to use a model text

and ‘piggyback’ ideas to make sense
of our lockdown experience

What are some of your favourite
words or sentences?
WHAT DID YOU DO IN
YOUR BUBBLE?
VERBS ARE DOING WORDS…. WRITE (JOT DOWN) 5 OR MORE THINGS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY DID.

THESE CAN BE WORDS OR SENTENCES.

WRITING TIME…
JOT YOUR IDEAS DOWN
THIS IS YOUR FIRST
DRAFT
What do you notice about the structure
of the poem… how is it written?
And we stayed home And created
And we stayed home And chattered
And we met our pets again And adapted
And we found our toys again
We learnt new skills, made up new
And paid for less, but spent more time
games, laughed, cried
together.
We experimented, exercised and played
Sometimes we questioned when it would
like only kids do
end.
Sometimes we argued, but then made
Sometimes we wondered if we wanted it to,
up Sometimes the days went fast and
And we promised to remember what we had
other times slow
learned
We found our new families way of life
When the world became small.
We will get through this together.
