Professor Mircea Eliade of the Divinity School of the University of
Chicago died in Chicago on April 22, 1986. The Editors of TheJournal
of Religion join in the mourning for this incomparable scholar of reli-
gion. No thinker has done more to advance religious scholarship in our
century. Beloved colleague and friend, Mircea Eliade is deeply missed
and will be long remembered.
