INTRODUCTION

This specification define the minimum requirements and give recommendations for field
survey, photogrammetry, and office work required to compile a topographic map of a parcel
of real property(s) for the project required “Water Disposal Unit Gialo 1 & 2” which will be
mounted in Libya. It will be applied with consideration of other specifications and documents
of the project.
All reports, mapping and drawing text, dimensions, and elevations shall be expressed in
English language and shall be in the imperial system.

DEFINITIONS
The following definitions will be used in this document without the need of any further
explanation:
Company/Owner: WAHA OIL COMPANY (WOC)

Contractor: Petro-Techna International Ltd (PTIL).

Contract: “Water Disposal Unit Gialo 1 & 2

Job no.: 15335

Manufacturer/Vendor: Entity that will be awarded by the Contractor for

manufacturing and/or supplying of equipment, materials and
devices for the Project.

Surveyor: Entity that will be awarded by the Contractor for specific

activities to be performed within the project Scope of Work for
Topographic and Mapping Services. It is the individual,
partnership, firm, or corporation, qualified to practice
professional land surveying under the laws of the state province

2.0 SURVEY ACTIVITIES

Topographical surveys will represent graphic and numeric the position, shape size and natural
or constructive particularities of detail and complex of objects as well as the relief of this
surface.

The shape, size and natural particularities of objects on the earth surface will be represented
through conventional signs, and relief through contour lines, with levels and conventional
signs.
Topographical works for surface engineering works will be done according to technical in
force norms and current national legislation.
The required topographic work to be fulfilled is:

• Topographical survey for both sites: Gialo 1 and Gialo 2 in the areas specified in the
Annex.

TOPOGRAPHIC MAP CONTENTS

2.1.1 Limits of Mapping

The mapped area shall include the entire area of the property identified in the contract
documents and a border area no less than 100 ft. wide outside of the boundary of the identified
property(s).

2.1.2 Topographical network

The network will be classical or GPS geodetic type and it will contain all the necessary
landmarks in order to cover the area where the design is done.
For each site at least three (3) landmarks are required.
The positioning error for the points of the topographical network must be less than 1 in. (x, y,
z).
The measuring error for detail topographical surveying must be less than 4 in. (x, y, z).

2.1.3 Detail Surveying

The survey works shall include the following activities:
1. Establish temporary and permanent GPS control points (if necessary) at each site
areas;
2. Survey of each site;
3. Processing survey data;

4. Drafting of relevant drawings;

5. Delivery drawings, data and mapping in hard and soft copies;
6. Final survey report and final data back-up of all deliverables in a format agreed by
Contractor.
All text, dimensions, test data, results and all other information relating to the work will be
expressed in the English language and referenced to the Metric system.
2.1.4. Site area survey activities
Ground elevations will be measured on a 20 ft grid minimum or as appropriate for the local site
conditions and at specific points (changes in slope etc). These areas shall be surveyed in order
to produce the coordinates for the following existing objects, if applicable:
- 1:200/1:500 scale Survey Sites Area Drawings which shall contain an appropriate grid.
- contour lines shown with an equidistance not exceeding 1.5 ft.
- roads, culverts and tracks;
- existing structures, buildings, concrete foundations etc.;
- fences, berms, pits or walls;
- overhead power lines, poles or pylons;
- all above ground and underground objects with their nominates (ex: cables, electrical
pool, pipes, transformer station, etc.);
- sudden elevation changes or geological features;
- buried pipelines, cables and other foreign services and features;
- above ground pipelines, foreign services and other features;
- areas of vegetation (where applicable).
- identification of characteristics points;
- grid corresponding to local reference system and national geodetic grid;

2.1.5 Topographic Details

a. General
The topographic survey shall be carried out on the basis of a square grid allowing a plotting
with a distance of max. 165 ft. among the grid points surveyed, and by accurately plotted
contour lines and spot elevations, the map shall depict the true topographic character of the
area. Show contour lines at 1.5 ft. intervals or at 3 ft. intervals where the slope of the terrain
exceeds 4 percent. Show spot elevations at all high points and low points, and at points of
grade change between contours as necessary to accurately depict irregular terrain features.
Show invert elevations for all storm drains/culverts, open channel drainage channels and
sanitary sewer lines within the mapped area, if applicable.

b. Elevation Datum
SURVEYOR shall relate map elevations to the Site Plant datum.

c. Project Bench Mark

The SURVEYOR shall establish a project bench mark at a suitable location in the vicinity of
the project as shown on the contract documents. The project bench mark may be a new
permanent reference landmark set by the SURVEYOR or may be a suitable mark placed on a
secure, stable object that is easily identifiable and recoverable.
Show the project bench mark on the SURVEYOR produced map and clearly identify it by
description.

COMPUTER GRAPHICS DATA

2.2.1 General Data Requirements

a. Data Format
Electronic data shall be supplied by the SURVEYOR in a format compatible with the
CONTRACTOR’S in-house CAD graphics and Digital Terrain Modelling systems, in
accordance with the following requirements:
- All drawing information will be on individual layers;
- All common symbols should be created into cells and the cell library to be part of
the deliverables;
- The north arrow will be positioned in the top right hand corner of the plan aperture;
- Match lines will state the previous and subsequent drawing numbers (if any) as
appropriate;
- All reference files and all libraries etc. used in the production of the drawings will be
provided in electronic format compatible with the electronic files for the drawings.
b. An electronic design file shall be provided for each of the final topographic maps. The
graphics in this file shall be full size, 1:1. This composite file shall be supplied to the
CONTRACTOR and/or COMPANY along with the individual scaled map files.

2.2.2 3-D Data

All 3-D elements representing contours, break lines, fault lines and centerlines shall be at the
actual Z value.

2.2.3 Scale

Record scale-dependent data (such as text, cells, symbols) at a scale factor suitable for
display at the specified map scale.

(MU) Master Units = 1 feet
(SU) Subunits = 12 inch

2.2.5 Symbols and Patterns

Symbols and patterns incorporated into the map shall be appropriate cells available to the
SURVEYOR either of his own creation or as supplied by other software packages. All
symbols and patterns used shall be clearly identified as such in the map legend on each
drawing delivered.
