Week of April 14, 2020

I decided to start by cleaning and preparing my saxophone for the upcoming weeks. This included
washing out the mouthpiece, pulling a cloth through the inside of the saxophone and making sure each
valve closes properly. After this was completed, I began refreshing my saxophone skills by going
through the scales. By the end of the week I had gone through the set of scales about 10 times and I
thought I would be ready for sheet music the next week.

Week of April 20, 2020

This week I started my first sheet music piece called You are Holy (Prince of Peace). I had this music
from when I was in the church choir with my saxophone. I worked with my brother and he helped me
understand the music better. He is studying for his Master’s Degree in band directing/conducting. After
I accomplished this piece, I played it for my family. I felt this was a good accomplishment for the week.

Week of May 4, 2020

This week I challenged myself to do two pieces of music, one on Monday and Tuesday and one on
Thursday and Friday. My first piece was even longer than the first it is called This is Amazing Grace,
again another piece from my choir. Once I was satisfied with my performance with this piece, I played it
for my family. For the next song, I had something else in mind, but my mom challenged me to learn a
song called Baker Street. This song is so much older than I am, but it is a great song. Of, course my mom
had me play it for her.

Week of May 11, 2020

Since this was the last week I wanted to go out with a bang and decided to do three songs. The first one
was called Build my Life from youth group choir. This one was simple to play. Then I decided to try
Maneater by Hall and Oates. My brother helped me on his trumpet because he knew the song better
than I did. This was the only song I performed for my family this week and my brother joined in. For my
last song I chose something very challenging called Vesuvius. I was first introduced to this song by my
high school band director and it took me three days to master because it is a 7-minute song. I mastered
my last song and I was proud of my accomplishments and realized how much I missed playing my
saxophone.
