Topic: The effect of nocov-19 on tourism industry in Sabah

Problem Statement: The drop of international tourist arrival especially from China has impact on tourism
industry in Sabah. It is estimated that the state has loss RM 40 mil due to the cancellation of booking from
China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. This has affect tour operator and local community who solely depends
on tourism to run their business. Therefore, this paper aim to examine the effect of nocov-19 on tourism
industry in Sabah.

Research objectives:

i. To understand effect of nocov-19 on tourism industry in Sabah

ii. To propose an approach in coping nocov-19 on tourism industry in Sabah

Research Questions

i. What is the effect of nocov-19 on tourism industry in Sabah?

ii. What is the approach in coping nocov-19 on tourism industry in Sabah

Methodology: Qualitative – Interview and focus group

Significant of research: The tourism industry contributed to economic development through among
others, providing employment and business opportunities, infrastructure improvement and increased in
foreign exchange and tax revenues. Therefore, there is a need to understand the effect of this outbreak and
propose a contingency plan that can help the tour operators and the local community to stay in the
business while waiting for the outbreak to over.
