Many people think that being depressed is a choice, or that they need to have a positive attitude,

depression is a real mental illness. Those who have depression cannot simply decide to stop feeling

depressed. Unlike typical sadness or worry, depression feels all-consuming and hopeless. Having

depression sucks a lot, people with depression would pay to get rid of it instantly if they could, and if

doctors could actually do that. Imagine constantly feeling the worst type of sadness but times that by ten.

Then add wanting to kill yourself everyother day becuse you know you aren’t good enough, because you

think you’re a failure and that it be easier for people around you if you just didn’t exsist.

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. The

idea of depression being caused by demons and evil spirits has existed in many cultures, including those

of the ancient Greeks, Romans, Babylonians, Chinese, and Egyptians. Because of this belief, it was often

treated with methods such as beatings, physical restraint, and starvation in an attempt to drive the demons

out. Symptoms and causes of depression can vary widely from person to person. Gender may also play an

important role in why a person is affected by depression, and what it feels like to them. Symptoms of

depression include: Trouble concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions, feelings of guilt,

worthlessness, and helplessness, pessimism and hopelessness, persistent sad, anxious, or "empty"

feelings, and some may even have suicidal thoughts or have made attempts.

Depression is more likely to happen to people who have learning disabilities, like ADD or

ADHD, serious illness, recent stressful life experiences, anxiety, etc. Depression could honestly happen to

anyone at any time. Most all depressive states end in suicidal thought or people attempting suicide.

Suicide is never the answer, there is always another solution, even if you can’t think of one right now.

And thoughts of hurting yourself never make you a bad person, but in all reality hurting yourself isn't

something that will make you feel better.

As of 2017, 300 million people around the world have depression, according to the World Health

Organization. Suicide is the 8th leading cause of death in the United States. It’s the second leading cause

of death among people ages 10–34.

The future for depression should be taken seriously, because with something as complex as the

brain, we don't know what could happen next. But in the meantime we should focus on those who are

suffering with any mood disorders at this current time because their lives are more important.

In conclusion depression is a real thing, not something that someone made up just to get out of

doing something. It should be treated as soon as diagnosed, if not it could go down a very rocky road that

could really change a person for the worse.
