Question 1
The following data relates to the age distribution of a certain community.

a. Find the mean, median and mode


b. If 1/4th of the oldest population is given a pension, what is the cut-off age for the eligibility to the
pension
c. Comment on the skewness of the dataset using a relevant measure
d. Find the standard deviation

Question 2
a. Roughly about 35000 students face the A/L exam in Mathematics stream. The following data is
available regarding the exam in a certain year. Mean = 47.4 and Standard Deviation = 12.6. answer
the following questions.
i. What is the number of students who obtained marks above 70
ii. What is the number of students who obtained marks below 30
iii. If only 3% of the students are given A passes, what is the cut-off mark for an A.

b. One of the students from your class forgot to study for an MCQ exam and decided to sit for it anyhow
and test his luck. The test consists of 10 questions and there are 4 choices out of which only one is
correct. Find the probability for following events.
i. Him getting at least 3 correct answers
ii. Him getting all 10 wrong

a. Calculate the coefficient of correlation


b. Comment on the value of the coefficient of correlation and whether it proves the popular idea of

a. What is the difference between a sample and the populations?
b. A random sample of size 80 was selected from a population of 960 to estimate the monthly income of
the family and the following data were obtained.
Mean income = 25300
standard deviation = 4900

find the 95% confidence interval for the population regarding the monthly income.
c. Out of 456 NIBM students 145 are playing computer games. Find the 95% confidence limits to the true
value of the proportion of the students who play computer games at NIBM
d. In NIBM out of a sample of 200 students 111 eat string hoppers and the rest eat short eats in the
morning. Can we assume that both string hoppers and short eats are equally popular?
