Solution:

a) The type of reactor is,

Ans: Pressurized Water Reactor:

Reason: As the water which flows through the reactor core is isolated from the turbine. By a heat
ex changer before going toe turbine.

b) The part [1] are Control rods,

Function:

Control rods are used in nuclear reactors to control the fission rate of uranium or plutonium.
Their compositions includes chemical elements such as boron, cadmium, silver, or indium, that
are capable of absorbing many neutrons without themselves fissioning.

c) The part [2] is the reactor core:

Function:

A nuclear reactor core is the portion of a nuclear reactor containing the nuclear
fuel components where the nuclear reactions take place and the heat is generated. Typically, the
fuel will be low-enriched uranium contained in thousands of individual fuel pins. The core also
contains structural components, the means to both moderate the neutrons and control the
reaction, and the means to transfer the heat from the fuel to where it is required, outside the core.

d) The part [3] is the fuel rods,

Function:

A fuel rod contains the elements necessary to produce heat that starts the process for generating
steam for the turbine that eventually turns the generator to produce electricity. The primary
element is enriched uranium. The fuel rod contains both uranium 339 and uranium 235. But only
Uranium 235 can be split by a neutron forming lower atoms. And in the process produce a very
large amount of heat. The heat is carried away usually in most modern reactors by water that
flows around the fuel rod.
