In the preliminary examination questions ‘on general knowledge and candidate’s power of expression, flair in English, knowledge of objective type legal problems and their solutions covering Constitution of India, Code of Civil Procedure, Code of Criminal Procedure, Indian Penal Code, Contract Act, Partnership Act, Principles governing Arbitration Law, Evidence Act, Specific Relief Act and Limitation Act will be included. Note: Minimum qualifying marks in the preliminary examination shall be 60% for general and 55% for reserved categories i.e. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Physically Handicapped (Blind/Low Vision) (mobility not to be restricted)/Orthopaedically. However, the number of candidates to be admitted to the main examination (written) will not be more than ten times the total number of vacancies of each category advertised. The marks obtained in the preliminary examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main Examination will not be counted for determining their final order of merit. Negative marking 0.25 marks shall be deducted for every wrong answer. Main Written Examination ‘Time- 3:00 Hour each paper A. General Knowledge and Language This paper shall comprise of two sections:- Section I General Knowledge:- This is to test the candidate's knowledge of current affairs ete. (100 Marks) Section IT Language (Essay, Translation and Précis Writing):- This is to test the candidate’s knowledge and power of expression in English, Credit will be given both for substance and expression. Conversely deduction will be made for bad expression, faults of grammar and misuse of ‘words ete, There will be two passages for translations one in English which will be required to be translated into Hindi (in Deynagri Script) and the second passage in Hindi (in Devnagri Seript) shall be required tobe translated into English, (150 Marks), B. Only such candidates will be called for viva-voce who have obtained 40% marks in each written paper and 50% marks in the aggregate except in the case of candidates belonging to reserved categories ie. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Physically Handicapped (Blind/Low Vision) (mobility not to be restricted)/Orthopaedically in whose case the qualifying marks shall be 35% in each written paper and 45% in the aggregate. A candidate of general category must secure minimum 50% marks and a candidate of reserved category must secure minimum 45% marks in viva-voce to be eligible for being recommended for appointment to theservice. HARYANA Preliminary Examination Time- 2:00 Hour Marks-500 The Preliminary Examination shall be of objective type consisting of 125 questions and each question shall carry 04 marks and for every wrong answer 0.80 mark shall be deducted. The objective type multiple-choice question for the Preliminary Examination shall be from the syllabus for the Main Examination. The candidate shall be expected to have a general and basic over view of the main law subjects and also the ability to answer questions on current events of national and international importance, Indian legal and constitutional history and governance. The candidate shall also be tested for his analytical skills, reasoning and aptitude. The standard of the question paper shall be of Law graduate level. Main Written Examination Time- 3:00 Hour each paper 1) Law Paper I ie. Civil Law I (200 Marks)- It will cover the following topics: Code of Civil procedure, Evidence Act, Indian Contract Act, Indian partnership Act, Sale of Goods Aet, Specific Relief Act, Punjab Courts Act and Haryana Urban (control of rent and evietion) Act, 1973 (2) Law Paper IT i.e. Civil Law II (200 Marks)- It will cover the following topics:- Hindu Law, ‘Mohammadan Law and Customary Law, Law of Registration, Law of Limitation (3) Law Paper III i.e. Criminal Law (200 Marks)- It will cover the following topics:-Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Indian Evidence Act, (4) Paper IV English (200 Marks)- English Essay (1000-1100 words) (100 marks), Precis (25 marks), Words and Phrases (Make sentences of the given words and Phrases) (25 marks), Comprehension (25 marks), Corrections (25 marks) (5) Paper V Language (100 Marks)- Hindi (in Devnagri Script), Language paper (V) shall comprise the following: Translation of an English passage into Hindi (20 marks), Explanation of Hindi passage in prose and poetry in the same language (30 marks) Composition (essay), idioms and corrections (50 Marks) Viva-Voce (Interview) Marks-200 To judge the personal qualities of the candidates, the viva-voce shall relate to the matters of general interest and is intended to test the candidates alertness, intelligence and general outlook. It shall be conducted in English. HIMACHAL PRADESH Preliminary Examination Time- 2:00 Hour Marks-300 The preliminary examination shall be an objective type examination consisting of the following three papers of 100 Marks each:- Civil Law-I Civil Law-Il E Criminal Law z Each paper shall be of one-hour duration and the examination in all the three papers shall be held on the same day. The syllabus for the preliminary examination shall be the same as provided for Paper-1 to III for the Main examination. The Preliminary Examination will be held at Shimla and Dharamsala in Kangra District (iftadequate Nos. of candidates opt for Dharamsala centre). Main Written Examination Time-3:00 Hour each paper ‘The subjects and syllabus for the written examination shall be as follows:- i) Civil Law-I : 200 Marks:- Code of Civil Procedure. Indian Evidence Act, Specific Relief Act and Himachal Pradesh Courts Act and Indian Stamp Act 1976, ii) Civil Law-II : 200 Marks:- Indian Contract Act, Hindu Law, Indian Limitation Act, Transfer of Property Act and H.P, Urban Rent Control Act. inal Law : 200 Marks:- Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Chapter-XVIT (section 138 to 143) of the Negotiable Instruments Act, Wild Life Protection Act and Indian Forest Act, H.-P. Viva-Voce (Interview) Marks 150 1 JHARKHAND Preliminary Examination ‘Time- 2:00 Hour ‘Marks-100 The Syllabus for the Preliminary Entrance Test shall consist of :- General English, General Knowledge (including Current Affairs) , The Code of Civil Procedure 1908, The Code of Criminal Procedure 1973, The Indian Evidence Act 1872, The Law of Contract 1872, The Indian Penal Code 1860. Note : The marks obtained in preliminary examination shall not be counted for the purpose of final selection. In case of tie of marks between the candidates atthe last pedestal, all the candidates obtaining such marks shall be called for appearing in the Viva-Voce Test irrespective of exceeding of number beyond three times of total vacancies. UTTARAKHAND Preliminary Examination ‘Time-3 Hours Marks-200 Part-I: - General Knowledge- 50 Marks :- It will include day to day happenings around India and the World, particularly in the legal spheres. Questions, the answers to which should be in essay form will relate mainly to jurisprudence, international law, neutrality, recent legislation, particularly- Indian constitutional law and developments, especially on their legal aspect and so on but will not be confined to them, Credit will be given both for substance and expression; conversely deduction will be made for bad expression, including faults of grammar, misuse of wordsete. B. Language -100 Marks A passage in English will be set and the candidate will be required to translate it into the ordinary language spoken in the courts, using the Devnagri Script (Marks 30), Likewise a passage of Hindi will be required to be translated in ordinary English language (Marks 30). There will be English Précis writing also (Marks 40) C. Law Paper I (Substantive Law) - 200 Marks The questions set will be restricted to the field covered by:- The law of contract; the law of partnership; the law concerning easements and torts; the law relating to Transfer of Property; including the principles of equity specially applicable thereto; the principles of Equity, with special reference to the Law of Trust and Specific Relief, Hindu Law and Mohammedan Law.
