AC 3.1 Examine how attitudes are formed (please provide three examples).

Example 1 attitude:

Smoking is disgusting

How the above may be formed?

It has been made something by the media that is very bad for you, on cigarette
packets there are always very graphic images that show the massive damage
that can be done to your body when you smoke.
People have also seen first-hand what smoking can do to someone’s body.

Example 2 attitude:

Eating junk food is unhealthy

How the above may be formed?
The media have made it so that eating foods such as crisps or chocolate is not
healthy, and shouldn’t be eaten. Social media also tries to promote a healthy
lifestyle, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
It has also been proven that junk food is not good for your body, and fruit or
veg would be a much better option as a snack.

Example 3 attitude:

Death Penalty for murder.

How the above may be formed?

Some people may have gone through the immense pain of loosing someone
they love too soon due to murder, this will create an anger amongst these
people. Society also looks down upon those who think that they have the
power to take someone else’s life. Some people might take phrases in the
bible literally, for example: “An eye for an eye”.

AC 3.2 Describe THREE ways in which attitudes may be CHALLENGED.

Challenge attitude 1:
For some people, smoking is a coping mechanism, and is only used in
moderation. Although that does not make it okay, it is also understandable
that smoking is addictive and is not an easy habit to quit and takes time &
patience.
Challenge attitude 2:

People should not be made to feel bad about eating junk food, as just as
anorexia is a thing, so is binge eating and shaming people for eating junk food
can only serve to make it worse not better.
Eating junk food is also okay when done in moderation, as long as you watch
what you are eating.
Someone can eat a lot of junk food, and still be perfectly healthy.
Challenge attitude 3:

Some people can be wrongly accused of murder.

In the bible, Jesus believed and stated that people should be forgiven “40x7”
which meant infinity. This shows that he would not approve of death penalty,
no matter how bad the crime.
