The Design and installation of water softener and reverse osmosis equipment, to eliminate the
calcium, magnesium, total dissolved solids, boron and silica ions present in the water for use
in thermal equipment and irrigation of trees in the surrounding of their Two plants for pumping
systems (emulsions and dynamites) of the company EXSA SA Tacna, is designed for water of
high hardness and high concentration of boron, which are normally in the form of bicarbonates
which in the presence of heat precipitate becoming soluble carbonates , consequently they form
scale which impede the passage of water in the pipes, while the high concentration of boron is
harmful to the plants. As a result of this project, treated water has been obtained, that is to say
having a water hardness of 800 ppm which, when passing through the resin bed, soft water is
obtained. On the other hand, the elimination of boron, silica and total dissolved solids, itself is
done with the reverse osmosis equipment, which has 6 membranes and 3 pressure tubes.

The reverse osmosis equipment produces a permeate flow rate of 6.47 gpm. As a result it was
possible to reduce, boron with an initial concentration of 10.89 mg / 0.2 mg / l, total dissolved
solids (TDS) of 5573.518 mg / 81.576 mg / l and the calculated electrical conductivity is in the
range of 108 and 148 μS/cm acceptable value to work in thermal equipment.
