EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN

Strategy N ° 1: GROUPING

1. "The group is defined as the meeting of students according to their abilities, offering

educational programs appropriate to their level and achieving greater motivation

and commitment. This concept is argued with the studies of Feldhusen (1997) and

Kulik (1992), who argue that the exceptional benefit cognitively and affectively

from work with students with similar abilities (Alonso and Benito, 1996),

recognizing the right of exceptional children to have an appropriate education that

helps them obtain their self-realization "(Zubiría, J. 2002, p.169).

The grouping or institutional special education, is about gathering or grouping

children with their same potential or abilities.

• Specific grouping: place the student in an exclusive classroom or center for

people with exceptional abilities.

• Satellite School: requires grouping students one or two days a week, in extra class

hours or opposite day, to give support to their abilities.

• Special Classroom: classroom located within an educational center, exclusively

for students with exceptional abilities or talents.

2. Articulate and associate with other institutions that allow to potentiate resources,

knowledge and experiences such as: Art centers, research groups, sports centers,

study groups etc.

3. Implement in the classroom recreational activities in order to make an individual

and student environment coupling with exceptional talents or abilities such as:

Games or role-playing activities, construction through the use of graphic material

etc.

4. In the educational part it is very important that the teacher has very clear teaching to

obtain great results in these people with a big mind, one of the strategies that can be

performed in the classroom is the implementation of realistic situations for

development in the participants applying rules and procedures to obtain great

results.

5. Children with high capacities tend to get bored when they do repetitive and

monotonous activities, so that this does not happen you should think about

performing for them creative, novel activities that can entertain them and be

innovative for them.

a good strategy would be the elaboration of scientific experiments because for them

it would be a challenge and they would enjoy performing it.
