Questions w/ answers:

•In the mock epic poem, Rape of the Lock, based on the determinants given, what
are the factors that determine Belinda’s social class? Elaborate on these factors.

Factors:
1. Dwelling area – Since the setting was held in a palace in which royalties
and high social guests are there, it could be determined her high social
class as well.
2. House type - based on the descriptions in the poem, Belinda has a very
excellent type of house in a high class way.
3. Status symbol- Belinda dresses very well and elegant, gives importance
with every strand of her hair considering classiness and social matter with
her high vanities.

•In our local setting, what are the things that you can see that may be taken as
status symbols? Why did you choose these items?

-University names, phone brands, and Clothes because nowadays people

will recognize you as what your status is in accordance with what school you
studied when you were in grade school high school and even college, if you have
an Apple phone or devices and if you wear guess , chanel, Versace clothes.

•Does social class affect a human being’s ability to participate in the development
of the society? Does social class have the ability to contribute to a society’s
downfall? Expound on your answers.

-Yes. Social Class can affects human being’s ability to participate in the
development of the society wether you have a low , mid or high social class,
every single things you do in participation with the development of the society
( ex. Volunteer participations, public speaking) can affect the development of the
society.

-Yes, it can also contribute to the society’s downfall since in real world,
higher class social status sometimes takes advantage with it , becomes a little
bossy up there and sometimes those who are in the bottom wouldn’t be hear
their voices and that makes the cycle and the function of society a little mess and
misinterpretations occur which leads to a complicated society .
