Introduce yourself

Hello, my name is Evelyn Liliana Hernandez Montenegro, I am 35 years old, I am from

Ipiales, Nariño.

Explain each step mentioned in the video

5 steps

Relax: Don’t worry about you don’t understand something. You need 100% of you brian
power. You need stay focus an relax, if you don´t understand something relax it is not the
end of the world. Relaxing and focusing 100% on what you are hearing, you have the best
chance to understand if you are relaxing.

Don’t Try to translate: If you listen to English and try to translate into your language at the
same time, you are trying to be a professional interpreter, it is no good. Because you need
years of training. Just listen, do not try to translate words.

Use context to help you understand: Understanding does not just depend on listening;
there are other things you can use, for example, body language, tone of voice and facial
expressions to help you understand what they mean. Also, think about the situation or the
place you are in. When you are listening to spoken English, use everything you can to help
you understand.

Practise with different situations and voices: Listening other accents, like American
voices, Australian voices, British voices or New Zealand, voices harder to understand.
Listen to as many different voices as possible. Don’t limit yourself. Listen different kind to
English speakers; Canadian, Rusian, Brazilian, Indian English speakers.

Make a study plan: It is important to improve your English, establish a practical plan to
work in the week. Follow the two rules. You don’t need much time. 15 – 20 minutes a day
it’s a good target. Listen different voices and different sources. For example: Listen songs,
podcast with American voices, Tv Shows, listen exercises from a textbook, call a friend and
spend 15 minutes speaking English.
At the beginning of the video they talk about some situations, name at least two of those
situations.

Situations:

1.You are listening to a native English speaker from Scotland, who speaks Scottish accent.

2. Four no-native speakers form different countries talking to each other. They have
different accents.

In the minute 3:31 other language is spoken, What language was that?

Language: Portuguese

Which are the 2 rules for the 5th step?

Rule #1. Do something every day

Rule #2. Do something different every day

propose?

They propose a practical plan for a week. To listening many type of resources and voices
every day.

I propose to listen one conversation between two or more English speakers for a 15
minutes twice a week.

How to stick to your plan?

Make your plan at the start of the week, write it, stick it in somewhere in your home, for
example on the wall, practice it in the best time for you concentration, then when you do
your listening practice each day, cross it off your plan.
