ABSTRACT

India’s air quality levels have worsened to an alarming stage. The bad air quality of the
country results in lots of premature death and health hazards. According to the Health Effects
Institute’s report, approximately 1.1 million people died in 2015 because of air pollution in
India, it also stated that if no additional measures are taken, the number will rise to 1.7
million annually death by 2030 and 3.6 million annual deaths by 2050. Sometimes the air
quality reaches such vulnerable levels that the government has to appeal to the public to
avoid outside contact and meeting people until it is necessary. An expert estimated that when
a kid goes to school they are exposed to such a bad quality of air which is proportionate to
smoking 50-60 cigarettes. There are various reasons behind this poor quality of air, like
smoking industries, vehicles and many others but the main reason is intentional stubble
burning which create toxic smog for a long duration of time.

In the light of above facts, the author in his proposed research paper aims to deal with the key
issues and possible long term and short term solutions to address this crisis. The author will
be using doctrinal method to research on various aspects to attain the objective to reduce air
pollution and at last suggest some measures which would help in reducing air pollution and
restore the environment to its livable conditions.
