Oncological emergencies are medical emergencies that might occur in cancer patients due to cancer or

it’s treatment and are potentially life threatening.

They can be divided into 3 catagories

1- Anatomical/ mass effect such as superior vena cava compression and spinal cord compression.
2- Metabolic such as Hypercalcaemia and Tumor lysis syndrome(which occurs when large number
of tumor cells get killed and lysed releasing their content in the blood leading to severe
metabolic disturbances e.g Hyperkalemia and Hyperuricemia.
3- Treatment related such as Neutropenic sepsis
