2. Rationale : - Article 1 : The writer is interested to identify deixis forms and meanings used
in Jakarta post articles.

- Article 2 : The writers want to Identifying and showing the occurrences of

deixis in the religious text, finding out the most dominant type of deixis in the
text, and analyzing the reasons behind using these types of deixis and how they
affect the audience who hear or read the speech.

- Article 3 : The writer want to try to find out what types of deixis that “Clever
Servant Story” use. Also the researcher used this text because this text is
interesting and easy to understand.

Research Method :

Data Analysis Technique:

- Article 1 : This study was applied qualitative descriptive.

- Article 2 : This Study was applied descriptive qualitative method.

 - Article 3 : In this study, the researchers used a descriptive qualitative method.

Research Design :

- Article 1 : The writers analyzed by the article by using the Dylgjeri and Kazazi
concept the data was table from in article Jakarta Post.

- Article 2 : The writers read and writing down the deictic expressions; person,
place and time deixis, trying to show their frequent occurrences in the text and
giving acceptable interpretation for their use.

- Article 3 : The researcher searches recount text with the title “The Clever
Servant” from Seri Pendalaman Materi (SPM) book 2012. The second, the
researcher reads the text. The third, the researcher analyz data. The researcher
analysis the kinds of deixis. Finally, after analyze the data the researcher
categorizes the result in the type of deixis. There are personal, time and place
deixis.

Data Collection Technique :

- Article 1 : The researcher obtains the data from the editorial of Jakarta post;
the data are analyzed in following steps. First, the researcher describes the
types of deixis (person deixis, spatial deixis and temporal deixis) based on the
Dylgjeri and Kazazi theory. Finally, the researcher make conclusion on the
result of analysis.

- Article 2 : The source of data was taken from a religious lecture presented by
Imam John Starling at Queens College in 22/10/2014 about imaan (faith)
which is taken as a sample.

- Article 3 : the researcher collected the data by reading the text. Then, the
researcher analyz data. After analyze the data, the researcher categorizes the
result in the type of deixis.
 Sample and Population :

- Article 1 :

Population : The writers include five(5) articles to find out the deixis form
and meaning used in Jakarta Post articles. They are chosen because it has a
difference amount of each types of deixis.

Sample:

Table 1 shows the number and the percentage of the usage of deixis in the
newspapers article, person deixis is used 157 times and have percentage 66,5%
spatial deixis is used 54

- Article 2 :

Population : The writers just use one(1) source to collect the data.

Sample :
 The table clearly shows that the mostly used type of deixis in this text
is the person deixis, especially the third person deixis that the Imam mentioned
for 98 times during his lecture. The second type of deictic expressions used is
the place deixis which is divided into proximal and distal both mentioned for 2
times. Other spatial expressions are mentioned for 9 times. Last is the time
(temporal deixis) mentioned for 7 times only by the Imam.

- Article 3 :

Population : The writes include 1 book and divide it into First person
deixis, second person deixis, third person deixis, time deixis, and place deixis.

3. a) Research Method

These three articles use descriptive qualitative research methods. These three articles
use descriptive qualitative research methods. Qualitative descriptive method itself is a
method that emphasizes the aspect of in-depth understanding of a problem rather than
looking at the problem for generalization research. This research method itself has several
advantages and disadvantages, including:

Disadvantages :

- the difference between facts and policy is less clear

- ineffective if you want to research as a whole or large-scale

- the inability to limit the range of research

Advantages :

- Descriptions and interpretations from informants can be studied in depth

- Having a theoretical basis that matches the facts

- there is a special understanding in analyzing

b) Research Problem

These three articles have a striking similarity in that they both have research problems
about the types of deixis that exist in the research subject.

c) Rationale

The writers of these three articles have the same reasons about why they do research and
having a same goals.

d) Data Collection Techique

The deficiency of the article 2 data collection method is that it only takes one source to
conduct research which could have caused the resulting data to be inaccurate. In addition,
research materials are limited because they only rely on one source
