PROGRESSIVISM

 This theory started in America in the late 19 th century. The American educator John Dewey
is the key figure in this philosophy. He believes that children should be given democracyn
school to make them better citizens. He believes in the idea that education comes from the
experience of a child.
 An educational philosophy which is grounded in the “pure” philosophy of Pragmatism.
 Individuality, progress, and change are fundamental to a student’s learning.
 In a progressive school, instead of an all-knowing teacher standing in front of the class
talking, the students themselvesshould be an active part of the education.
