I am writing this letter of recommendation in support of Athina Reyes. Athina is a

graduating senior in the class of 2020 at Monarch School in San Diego, CA.

I am a former teacher, program coordinator, and volunteer at Monarch School. I met

Athina in 2018. I had the pleasure of working with Athina both through YQUE,
Monarch’s support group for LGBTQA students, and during the mentorship program at
the school at the beginning of Athina’s senior year in high school.

Athina is creative and talented. She clearly expresses herself and her unique
perspective on life through art, music, poetry and spoken word. She is caring,
outspoken, and dedicated to speaking out for herself and those around her to help bring
about understanding, compassion, and necessary change.

Athina is a role model among her peers and younger students at Monarch School. She
is an ally to others who are experiencing challenges in their lives. In the YQUE group,
Athina consistently showed up, spoke her truth, and advocated for helping to bring
about positive changes at the school. She volunteered to address the entire high school
and middle school to discuss homophobia and Monarch School’s dedication to support
all students. She is both honest and courageous whether she is speaking to a student, a
staff member, or or large group of people.

Athina is a natural leader who would be an asset to any workplace, program or

educational setting.
