“TALKING TRASH”
We celebrate World Oceans Day to remind everyone of the major role the

oceans have in everyday life. They are the lungs of our planet, providing most

of the oxygen we breathe. The purpose of the Day is to inform the public of

the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement of

citizens for the ocean, and mobilize and unite the world’s population on a

project for the sustainable management of the world's oceans. They are a

major source of food and medicines and a critical part of the biosphere. In the

end, it is a day to celebrate together the beauty, the wealth and the promise of

the ocean.

This year, the President of the General Assembly launched 'Play It Out', a

global campaign against plastic pollution. Decades of overuse and a surge in

single-use plastics has led to a global environmental catastrophe. Today,

13,000,000 tonnes of plastic leak into the ocean every year, what among other

damage, kill 100,000 marine animals annually. While most plastics are

expected to remain intact for decades or centuries after use, those that do

erode end up as micro-plastics, consumed by fish and other marine wildlife,

quickly making their way into the global food chain. From plastic straws to

plastic bags, we all are at the frontline of efforts to #BeatPlasticPollution

2
Pollution is the damage to the Earth’s natural environment. It can appear in

many forms such as marine pollution, land pollution and air pollution. It can

be a headache to deal with. We obviously cannot see pollution’s effects until

but we can begin to notice the signs and harm it is causing to the Earth and its

wildlife.

There is no doubt that news, articles, social media and campaigns try their best

to raise awareness and give advice on how to reduce pollution to ultimately

improve our Environment. However pollution is still on the rise and it is

strongly becoming one of our biggest threats. In Ho chi minh city the

temparute has increased drastically over the past couple of years and

researchers say it is due to climate change as a response to the levels of

pollution. It is sad to read that Hanoi and Ho chi minh city are considered

highly pollution cities by The International Maritime Organization and World

Wildlife fund.

Actually, having a good environment to live is not easy if we are not doing

anything to reduce pollution. Everybody knows that pollution is a product of

cars, factories, motorbikes and waste. But most of us do not care and think that

it is fine. To change this a lot of inventors have started designing and

manufactoring cars and motorbikes that run on electricity, factories have

started using air purifiers and air filters. I also think that people should stop

using single use plastics like me. For example I use only one straw a day, so in

a year I will have used 365 straws – which is still A LOT! But it is a start and

that is how I have started reducing pollution by reusing one straw a day.

Some people have completely stopped using straws as they are they bigest

killers of marine life. Through this I have realised that it is the small

behaviours hat we do that can ultimately change our own environment.

BASKETBALL
