OVERVIEW
Under the National Highway Development Program, a large number of bridges are being constructed. There
has been lot of developments with respect to design and construction of bridges after adopting Limit State
Philosophy for bridge design in 2011. With increase in span, large number of continuous, balanced
cantilever, extra dosed and cable stayed bridges are being built. Accelerated Bridge Construction is in vogue
with precast box, pre-tensioned girders, precast segmental construction and steel-concrete composite
decks. The type of bearings and expansion joints being used in long span bridges are also different. With the
intention to reduce the cost of construction of bridges, at the same time aiming for 100 years service life is
quite challenging.  How to design and construct durable bridges with service life of 100 years is quiet
challenging. Therefore, this Webinar focus on most of the core issues related to National Highways
Development Projects including Best Practices and Ethics, geotechnical investigations, design of temporary
structures, strategies for enhanced service life of bridges, challenges in design and construction of durable
bridges, overview of seismic design and bearings and expansion joints for bridges and few case studies on
iconic bridges.
