Assignment #1: Creative Music Making Assignment (20 points)
- Students can submit whatever they choose, whether it is singing/covering a song, playing
an instrument (piano, guitar, ukulele), TikTok, must be something music-related.
Maximum of 3 minutes for the video.
- Videos will be turned into a ‘virtual talent show’ for each choir. Students can choose
whether or not their act would like to be featured in the movie.

Week of April 27th

Assignment #1: March Madness Assignment (20 points)
- Students will listen to part of each of the 16 songs and then fill out their elimination-style
bracket.
- Once students reach their ‘Final Four’, they will write 2 sentences about each song and
why they chose them.
- Songs are grouped into 4 categories: Sacred, Secular, Foreign Language, Spiritual/Gospel
Assignment #2: Continuation of Singing Assignment (20 points)
- Students will pick one of the canons attached to the assignment and submit video
recordings of singing the rhythm counts on the Do pitch, as well as the singing of the
solfege.
Assignment #3: Theory (10 points)
- Con Brio/Cantate: 15 Key Signature Identification and 15 Key Signature Construction
- Bel Canto: 25 Major Scale Construction
- Chorale: 25 Interval Identification
Assignment #4: Paper Plate Award Voting: fun awards for each class! (10 points)

- Part One: students will listen to and provide 3-4 links to different virtual choirs. At least
one must be a high school group
- Part Two: students will then provide Mr. Schafer with three repertoire suggestions they
would like to do as a virtual choir
Assignment #3: March Madness Part Two (20 points)
- Students will create their own March Madness bracket with 16 choral pieces of their
choosing.

Assignment #1: Sight Reading (10 points)
- Students will sight-read the eight-bar example attached on Classroom. A link to the
pop-up piano on ​www.musictheory.net​ is provided
Assignment #2: Singing Project Part 3 (20 points)
- Using feedback from their fundamental work, students will submit their canon on the text
and begin incorporating their two personalized singing skills.
Assignment #3: March Madness Voting (10 points)
- Students will help decide the overall March Madness winner. The three songs on the
Google Form are based off of the total number of votes.
EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY
- 10 points: Students can submit a picture/video of them doing something not associated
with school
- 20 points: Students can create their own choir meme

- Students will submit a recording of their vocal part of ‘Stars’ by Eriks Esenvalds

- Learn their vocal part of Eric Whitacre’s ‘A Boy and a Girl’

- Students will fill out the Google Form to indicate what song they would like to perform
for the next part of the project

Assignment #1: Rhythmic Dictation (10 points)
- Students will listen to and notate the 4-bar rhythm
Assignment #2: Honoring the Class of 2020 (10 points)
- Students will write a short note or create a video shout-out for our seniors.
Assignment #3: Create Your Own Choral Concert Program (40 points, due Friday, May 29th)
- Students will choose 7-8 pieces they would want to sing as part of their ideal concert.
Only 2 songs can be from CHS Choir and at least 2 pieces must be in a foreign language.
Students may also choose contemporary pieces, but must be arranged for a choir.
- Students must choose music that would fit the choir they currently sing in.
- Students must then write a short program note (3-5 sentences) about relevant information
about the piece, such as the composer, genre, things to listen for (dynamics, phrasing,
language, etc.)

- Students get to create their own final exam for Mr. Schafer to take. Their exam should be
at least 2 pages and have 2-3 different types of questions.

- Chorale: 25 Major Interval Identification, 15 Minor Scale Identification, 10 Major and
Minor Scale Ear Training
Assignment #2: Create your own Choral Concert Program Assignment (due Friday, May 29th)
Assignment #3: Singing Project Part 6: First Video Submission (20 points)
- Students will incorporate their two personalized singing skills and submit their first video
of their song of choice. Feedback will then be given by Mr. Schafer based on those two
skills

Assignment #2: Sing that Thing Assignment (10 points)
- Students will watch Sing that Thing, a choir competition show on PBS, and analyze one
high school choir, one collegiate choir and one adult choir

Assignment #1: Singing Project Part 7: Final Video Submission (20 points)
- Using Mr. Schafer’s feedback, students will re-submit their video as the final part of the
online singing project
Assignment #2: Exit Survey (10 points)
- Students will fill out the Google Form to talk about their experiences in choir and during
this time of virtual learning
