SUMMARY.
From the audio there is one female speaker. She talked about whether grades are
important in USA.
Firstly, grade become source of anxiety. Chasing perfect grades convince students
that the lower their grade the lower their self-esteem. Next, chasing perfect grades discourage
creativity and reduce academic risk taking. Students will lose their desire to learn and only
study just to ace the test. Furthermore, student with higher test score do better in college are
not true. High school grade demonstrate commitment to handworks meanwhile test score
only reflect performance in one day. Other than that, none of the valedictorian are visionary
or trail blazer. Many admit they are not the smartest and they only give what the teacher
wanted rather than exploring and taking risk. Lastly, in Finland, test and grade play smaller
role. They only have one final test at the end of senior year and yet still rank world top 10 in
academic.
Moreover, in our opinion, grade will not determine who you are in the future. Ones
need to explore their own forte and expand their knowledge about it. Do not let test score
affect your emotion and judgement. Learn for knowledge not for test.
In a nutshell, whether grades are important in USA, the answer is both yes and no. We
recommended that, the USA Department of Education to revise the grading and test system
and cater the uprising problem. Also, teacher should help student to develop themselves
rather than putting boundary.
