SUMMARY

The group performed the laboratory activity on August 17, 2019. The time of extraction

is nine o’clock in the morning to four o’clock in the afternoon at Mega Heights, Alangilan,

Batangas City with a temperature of 27 degree Celsius according to our weather widget.

At the site where the soil sample was taken, a measure of 1m x 1m serves as our guide for

the entire excavation. The depth of 12 inches was subjected for the extractions of the disturbed

soil samples. Upon the collection of disturbed soil sample on the excavated area, the marked of

rectangular in the center part of the land serves as our undisturbed soil. Disturbed sample are

inserted inside the plastic and sack while undisturbed sample is cling wrapped to maintain its

natural moisture. The samples were properly labeled and stored.

CONCLUSION

Disturbed soil samples do not keep the in-situ properties of the soil when in the process

of collection. It’s usually test for determining the texture, soil type, moisture content aas well as

the nutrient and contaminant analysis. Disturbed sample are much easier to collect than

undisturbed sample. Undisturbed soil samples keep the structural integrity of the in-situ soil and

they have a higher recovery rate in the sampler. It’s usually test to identify the properties of

strength, permeaility, compressibility, as well as the fracture patterns among others. Undisturbed

sample requires a huge effort to maintain its natural moisture, there should be no cracks present

in the sample while doing this experiment

In working the laboratory, it is vital to know as much information to avoid conflict with

the fellow members. Since, geotechnical engineering concerned with the behavior of earth

material. This first laboratory is very important to execute because it’s the main source of sample

for other future lab experiment.
