SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

The group performed the laboratory activity on October 4,2019, nine o’clock in the

morning until twelve o’clock at the Soil /CMT laboratory for conducting the liquid limit and

October 7, 2019 for performing the plastic limit. The purpose of this experiment is to determine

the plastic limit and liquid limit (one-point and fall cone method) of the soil sample retrieved

from Mega Height, Alangilan, Batangas City.

The liquid limit (LL) is conceptually defined as the water content at which the behavior

of a clayey soil changes from plastic to liquid. The transition from plastic to liquid behavior is

gradual over a range of water contents, and the shear strength of the soil is not actually zero at

the liquid limit. The average result of liquid limit using the one-point method was 76.58% while

in fall cone method was 67.75%. In conclusion, the mixture of the soil sample with water

relatively affects the value of the liquid limit of the sample. This test is one of the key factors in

identifying what type of soil sample the group have. The values of liquid limit for the one-point

method and fall cone method are different.

The plasticity of soils is determined by using relatively simple remolded strength tests.

The plastic limit is the moisture content of the soil under test when remolded and rolled between

the tips of the fingers and a glass plate such that longitudinal and transverse cracks appear at a

rolled diameter of 3.2mm. At this point the soil has a stiff consistency .The average plastic limit

for this experiment was 54.37%. In conclusion, the plastic limit value for the experiment is

dependent on the mixture that is used for conducting the laboratory.
