2019-2020 Talented and Gifted Referral Information

RRISD Department of Gifted and Advanced Academic Services Goal

To design a quality education for all students and support the unique needs of gifted learners.

State Goal for Gifted Education

Students who participate in services designed for gifted/talented students will demonstrate skills in
self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of
innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation
to students of similar age, experience, or environment. High school graduates who have participated in
services for gifted/talented students will have produced products and performances of professional quality
as part of their program services.

The Assessment Process

● The state requires annual testing be allowed and a minimum of 3 assessments including quantitative
and qualitative data.
● We use a combination of nationally normed standardized tests for ability, reasoning and
achievement, as well as anecdotal data from teachers and/or parents.
● Additional data is collected as needed and at the discretion of the Campus Screening and Placement
Committee.
● One assessment is non-verbal (with no language) and the others can be offered in English or
Spanish.
● Placement decisions are made at the campus level through a holistic case study approach by the
Campus Screening and Placement Committee.
