Compare and contrast the views of those in favour and against RA 1425, considering the context of

the 1950s; would similar argument still have force today?


If we were to put today’s context with regards to the understanding of RA 1425, we can say that
there would be sort of changes regarding the cultures, ideologies, and the likes among the Filipinos,
thus similar arguments won’t necessarily arise but still could exist. Today, we aren’t as conservatives
as we were back to the 1950s, thus we are more likely to be open for new ideologies that are actually
trying to give us inputs. The Rizal Law’s objectives are undeniably fruitful and generally ethical.
However, people today would know a little more about being critical, compared back then.

Reflect on your secondary education. Did your school comply with RA 1425? How effective is the Rizal
Law in instilling patriotism among students?

Basically, the school where I finished my secondary education complied with the Republic Act
1425. At some point, it has instilled patriotism to us in such way that we get to further understand
how important it is to love one’s country and what it could actually bring to us. It has made us
become more critical and be more indulged with what’s happening in our country. Though I cannot
really generalized that all students were instilled with patriotism, I can say that most of us did.
On one note, its instillation could even be upgraded in such way where it would get the attention
of most students. We’re now living in the new technology age, thus it would be much better if we
make use of it. Though it would be great to still live by the traditional way of teaching, I honestly think
that it would be better if we indulge it with new media where the younger generation could relate to
