Sérgio Azevedo

Sérgio Azevedo was born in Coimbra, Portugal, in 1968. He studied with Fernando Lopes-Graça
in Academia de Amadores de Mú sica and later at Lisbon College of Music (ESML) with
Constança Capdeville, where he finished his studies with the highest marks. Azevedo won
several important prizes, both in Portugal and abroad (United Nations Prize, SPA Author’s
Prize, etc.), and his works are performed regularly all around the world and available in more
than 40 CDs. He published two books on music, "The Invention of Sounds" and "Olga Prats –
Piano Singular", and writes for "The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians" and for
RDP. He is frequently invited to create program notes and to present concerts in National
Theatre of Sã o Carlos and at Gulbenkian Foundation. Sérgio Azevedo is PHD by Minho
University since 2011 and, since 1993, teacher at ESML. His music is published by AVA –
Musical Editions.
