 Look: Traditionally, the student has a quick look at the word, but now allow
students to focus at a particular blend or combined sound which should be in
bold for example: Shop, Children, bounce…
 Say: Students say the word or repeat it after the teacher. But, get students to
independently read the word and build up fluency .
 Cover: students cover the word with their hand, I recommend using other materials
or get them to work in pairs to cover for each other.
 Sound and Write : Traditionally, students write the word from memory, but now
get them to sound out the word softly or loudly while writing it.
 Check: Traditionally students check the whole word if it’s correct. But, now get
students to check letter by letter, if any letter is incorrect, then just self-correct
that letter.
