1.0 GENERAL
This specification contains the minimum design and installation requirements for fire extinguishers
and cabinets. The location and type of fire extinguishers is to assure the safety of the occupants in
the building during a fire.
2.0 REFERENCES
The referenced codes and standards are intended to provide an acceptable level of quality for
materials, products and workmanship. In case of conflict between these standards and the text of this
Specification, the Specification text shall govern.
The latest revision of the referenced codes and standards shall be used as a minimum guide. In case
of conflict, the Contractor shall propose equipment, materials and processes conforming to one group
of codes and standards.
2.1 MARAFIQ

5.0 SUBMITTALS
The Contractor shall submit for approval, the following items for review and approval before
commencing the work:
Product Data
Product data shall include principal dimensions, general construction and material for each
item intended to be furnished and installed.
Manufacturer's catalog data sheets shall be submitted for all fire extinguishers, cabinets,
supports, signage and all other accessories and components.
Shop Drawings
Working plans, prepared according to NFPA 10.
As-Built Drawings
Clearly indicate sprinklers, systems, locations and symbols on the Shop Drawings and As-
built plans.

The maximum spacing between fire extinguishers shall be in accordance with NFPA 10, NFPA 101,
and Project Specification.
The selection of fire extinguishers shall be based on the hazard to be protected as per NFPA 10 and
the Project Specifications.
The selection and installation shall reflect high quality professional work that properly accounts for
practical maintenance concerns and aesthetic concerns, as well as meets the design requirements.
Fire extinguishing and cabinets shall be suitably designed to withstand ambient temperature changes,
vibration, humidity, impact, and corrosion.
8.0 PRODUCTS
All goods and products covered by these Specifications shall be procured, when available, from an in-
Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods and products manufactured out-of-Kingdom must
be approved by MARAFIQ. All products, system components and hardware shall be in compliance
with NFPA 10. Only listed materials and devices shall be used.
Fire extinguishers and cabinets installed outside, or in the presence of a corrosive atmosphere, shall
be constructed of materials that will resist corrosion or shall be suitably protected from corrosion.
All products, system components and hardware shall be in compliance with the applicable NFPA
standards and the Project Specifications.
All fire extinguishers, cabinets and any additional fire fighting equipment shall be UL listed and FM
approved.
To simplify the training of personnel and the stocking of spare parts, fire extinguishers and cabinets
shall be by the same manufacturer.
8.5 Brackets
Brackets for portable fire extinguishers shall be designed to prevent accidental dislodge of
extinguisher, of sizes required for type and capacity of extinguisher required.
8.8 Signage
Bracket-mounted extinguishers shall be identified with the words “FIRE EXTINGUISHER” in
red letter decals applied to wall surface.
Fire extinguisher in cabinet shall be identified with the words “FIRE EXTINGUISHER”
applied to the cabinet door.
9.0 EXECUTION
All products and equipment shall be installed in accordance with MARAFIQ regulations, applicable
local codes and standards, the manufacturer's written installation instructions and Project
Specifications.
All fire extinguishers, cabinets and any additional fire fighting equipment shall be UL listed and FM
approved.
Fire extinguisher and cabinets shall be installed in accordance the applicable NFPA standards.
Provisions shall be made to facilitate frequent inspection, testing and maintenance as described in
NFPA 10.
Protect all equipment and materials at all times.
Cover and protect equipment and materials from dirt, water, chemical or mechanical damage.
10.0 INSTALLATION
Installation of fire extinguishers and cabinets shall conform to this specification, Project Specification,
and MARAFIQ Fire Code. Equipment, materials, installation, workmanship, inspection and testing
shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions and NFPA 10. Extinguishers
shall be fully charged and ready for operation upon installation.
Fire extinguishers shall not be exposed to temperatures outside of the listed temperature range
shown on the fire extinguisher label. Fire extinguishers installed under conditions where they are
subject to physical damage (e.g., from impact, vibration, the environment) shall be adequately
protected. Where fire extinguishers are installed in closed cabinets that are exposed to elevated
temperatures, the cabinets shall be provided with screened openings and drains.
All materials and equipment used in the installation of the fire extinguisher and cabinets shall be new
and the latest design by the manufacturer.
All materials and devices shall be UL Listed and FM approved.
Fire extinguishers and cabinets installed outside, or in the presence of a corrosive atmosphere, shall
be constructed of materials that will resist corrosion or be suitably factory protected from corrosion.
Portable fire extinguishers shall be positioned for easy access and shall be protected from moving
equipment and mechanical or environmental abuse.
Extinguishers shall not be obstructed or obscured from view.
Portable fire extinguishers shall be installed securely on the hanger, or in the bracket supplied by the
extinguisher manufacturer, or placed in cabinets. Mounting brackets and fire extinguisher cabinets
shall be securely fastened to structure, square and plumb.
To avoid corrosion on the bottom of the unit, hand extinguishers shall be hung in position rather than
allowed to rest on grade.

11.0 COORDINATION
Installation of fire extinguishers and cabinets shall be coordinated with other work so as not create
obstructions.
The type of fire extinguisher shall be visually verified to confirm the appropriate type and size of fire
extinguisher has been provided for the hazard it is to protect.
All fire extinguishers shall be visually verified that they are fully charged and in good condition.
14.0 CERTIFICATION
The Contractor shall prepare and submit a set of As-built Drawings of the location of the fire
extinguishers and cabinets, maintenance and instruction bulletins, and the applicable parts of the
Contractor’s material and test certificates covering material and tests certifying that the work has
been completed and tested in accordance with plans and specifications.
