2. INPUT FILTERS

2.1 Definition

The input filter is a protection against spurious signals which could be present at the input of
the I/O boards of teleprotection (i.e capacitive discharge). When the voltage of such signals
is high, it could be considered as a command by the teleprotection.
When the duration of the signals at in input of I/O board is less than the threshold set as
input filter, such signal is not considered by the teleprotection as command signal.
The tranfer time of the commands will be increased by the value set for input filter.

2.2 Digital mode

The input filter delay setting is available on Input/output configuration window:

The input filter is adjustable from 0 to 100mS.

Default value is 1ms.

It is recommended to leave this default setting as minimum

2.3 Analogue mode

The input filter delay setting is available on Input/output configuration window:

The input filter is adjustable from 0 to 3mS in Single tone mode

The input filter is adjustable from 0 to 100mS in Analogue dual tone mode

Default value is 1ms.

2.4 Example of input filter setting

Figure 1 Input filter setting

1. – No input filter set- The input signal with short duration is sent as command-
Nominal transfer time is t in ms
2. – Input filter set at 3mS – The input signal duration is less than the input filter
threshold. No command is transmitted. No log in events files.
3. - Input filter set at 3mS – The input signal duration is longer than the input filter
threshold. The command is transmitted after 3ms. The transfer time is t+3ms.

3. HOLDING DELAY

3.1 Definition

According the field condition, it could be necessary to have a minimum time for transmission
or reception of trip command.
The holding delay is a timer applicable to the duration of the transmission or the reception of
commands.
When this function is used, the duration of the command will be at least equal to the time
setting.
3.2 Digital mode

The holding delays settings are available on Application parameters windows:

3.2.1 Transmission holding delay

The transmission holding delay can be turned off (unchecked) or adjusted from 20 to 200mS.
Two modes are vailable; standard and Pulsed mode.

Standard
When a signal is present at the input, the corresponding command will be transmitted by the
teleprotection DIP5000 during a time equal or higher than the time set to the transmission
holding delay.
Pulsed mode
When a signal is present at the input, the corresponding command will be transmitted by the
teleprotection DIP5000 during a time lower or at maximun equal to the time set to the
transmission holding delay.

3.2.2 Reception holding delay

The reception holding delay can be turned off (unchecked) or adjusted from 0 to 3000mS.

When a command is received, the duration of the restitution of this command at the output of
the teleprotection DIP5000 will be equal or longer than the time set on holding delay
reception.

3.3.1 Input validation delay

In analogue mode, the teleprotection algorithm of the DIP5000 is such that short duration trip
tones (less than 3mS) sent on line are not detected on the remote side.
According to the field condition, in case of very short trip command, it might be necessary to
extend the duration of transmission command.

The input validation delay is a timer which define the condition, to take into account the
standard holding delay at transmission side which extend the duration of transmission
command.
This function does not imply any additional delay to the nominal transfer time:

If the duration of the signal at the input is less than the time set on Input validation delay , the
transmission holding delay will not be taken into account.
The command will be transmitted by the teleprotection DIP5000 as it has been detected at
the input.
If is is a short duration command, it will not be acknowledged by the reception.
The command will be logged in transmission side event file and counter. No log in reception
side.

If the duration of the signal at the input is more than the time set on Input validation delay ,
then the transmission holding delay timer will start.

On analogue mode it is recommended to set Input validation delay to 3mS.

Recommended minimum value: 3ms.

Note: The input validation delay is not relevant in case of Pulsed mode.

3.3.2 Transmission holding delay

The transmission holding delay is adjustable from 20 to 500mS.

Two modes are available Standard and Pulsed mode.

Standard
When a signal is present at the input, the corresponding command will be transmitted by the
teleprotection DIP5000 during a time equal or higher than the time set to the transmission
holding delay.
Pulsed mode
When a signal is present at the input, the corresponding command will be transmitted by the
teleprotection DIP5000 during a time less than or at maximun equal to the time set to the
transmission holding delay.

3.3.3 Reception holding delay

The reception holding delay is adjustable :

From 0 to 500 ms in analogue single tone
From 0 to 3000mS in analogue dual tone.

When a command is received, the duration of the restitution of this command at the output of
the teleprotection DIP5000 will be equal or longer than the time set on holding delay
reception.
