Input Devices :-
In computer, an input device is a peripheral (piece of computer hardware equipment) used to
provide data. These devices are used to give input data to the computers.

"Input device translates words, sounds images, and actions that people understand into symbols
that the system unit can process".

There are many types of input devices

Human data entry devices, Pointing Devices, Source data entry devices And optical input
devices.
Modern Forms of Input Devices

Joy Stick :-
It is a device which is commonly used for playing video games.

 Features of Joystick :
 Used to control the speed of cursor
 In popular games like racing and flying games
 The direction of push of stick and amount of deflection determines the change in
position and speed respectively.

Track Ball :-
Track ball is an input device that is mostly used in notebook or laptop computer, instead of a
mouse. This is a ball which is half inserted and by moving fingers on ball, pointer can be moved.
Since the whole device is not moved, a track ball requires less space than a mouse. A track ball
comes in various shapes like a ball, a button and a square.

 Function of TrackBall :
Similar to that of a traditional computer mouse, the trackball mouse is an input device and
functions in the same way, except that the trackball mouse remains stationery and does not move
about on the operating surface.

 Two Types of track ball :

o Wireless Trackball
o Mini Trackball

 Advantages :
 save desk space, works on all surfaces
 smooth and precise
 less movement for your arm and wrist
 comfortable control
 ergonomic design
 resistant to dust, not much cleaning needed
 PC and Mac compatible
 No driver needed. Plug and play! Additional software can be installed which allows for
more options to be set.
Output Devices:-
These devices provide output to the user after processing of input data. The process data
presented to the user via output devices could be text graphics audio or video.

There are two types of output devices; Hard copy output devices soft copy output devices

Modern Form Of Output Devices

Plotters:-
A Plotter is a computer hardware device much like a printer that is used for printing vector
graphics. Instead of toner, plotters use a pen, pencil, marker, or another writing tool to draw
multiple, continuous lines onto paper rather than a series of dots like a traditional printer.

 Types Of Plotters :
 Drum Plotter
 Flat-Bed Plotter
 Inkjet Plotter
 Cutting Plotter

 Uses :
In the past, plotters were used in applications such as computer-aided design, though they have
generally been replaced with wide-format conventional printers. A plotter gives a hard copy of
the output. It draws pictures on a paper using a pen.

 Advantages :
 Plotters can work on very large sheets of paper while maintaining high resolution.
 They can print on a wide variety of flat materials including plywood, aluminum, sheet
steel, cardboard, and plastic.
 Plotters allow the same pattern to be drawn thousands of time without any image
degradation.

 Disadvantges :
 Plotters are quite large when compared to a traditional printer.
 Plotters are also much more expensive than a traditional printer.

Projectors :-
A digital projector is a device which connects to a computer and is used to project the video
output from the computer onto a wall or screen. In classrooms they are often used with electronic
whiteboards. The projector can be portable and placed on a stand or it can be permanently fixed
to the ceiling.

 Types of Projector :
 LED Projector
 LCD Projector
 LPD Projector

 Uses :
A projector can be used either for very large screen home theater, or as a less expensive
substitute for a big-screen TV. You determine how big you want the image to be based
on how close to the wall or screen you place the projector. But typically you would not
bother to go smaller than about 50" diagonal. Unless you have a very bright projector,
ambient room light will adversely affect the quality of the video image by making it look
dull and washed out.
