Unit-I: Project Management Concepts and Needs Identification

Attributes of a Project, Project Life Cycle, The Project management Process, Global Project
Management, Benefits of Project Management, Needs Identification, Project Selection, Project
Organization, Project as part of the functional organization, Pure Project Organization, Matrix
organization, Mixed organizational systems.                                

Unit-II: Project Planning and Scheduling  

Design of project management system; Project Work System; Statement of Work, Work
Breakdown Structure, Project Charter, Project Execution Plan, Work Packaging Plan, Project
Procedure Manual; Project Scheduling; Bar charts, Line of balance (LOB), Resource allocation,
Business Plan.

Unit-III: Project Monitoring, Control and Project Performance

Planning, Monitoring and Control; Design of monitoring system; Computerized PMIS (Project
Management Information System). Coordination; Procedures, Meetings, Control; Scope/Progress
control, Performance control, Schedule control, Cost control, Performance Indicators; Project
Audit; Project Audit Life Cycle, Responsibilities of Evaluator/ Auditor, Responsibilities of the
Project Manager.  

Unit IV: Multiple projects and Constraints:

Constraints, Method of Ranking, Mathematical programming Approach, Linear Programming

Approach and Integer Linear Programming model, Goal Programming Model.

Unit V: Network Techniques for Project Management:

Development of Project Network, Time Estimation, Determinations of Critical Path, PERT

Model, CPM Model, Network Cost system.
