Roger Miller inducted as IBM's New President By Alan Goodheart

Convention Highlight
The anticipation proved to be correct - the IBM Int’l
Convention held several weeks ago in Reno. NV was
everything it was built up to be. Days filled with per-
formances by the world’s greatest magicians. Lectures
giving you creative insight into the minds of the arti-
sans themselves. Time to meet new friends or a
chance to renew acquaintances with your fellow magi-
cians from everywhere. And the evening shows left
you breathless and wanting more! Acts ranging from
comedy magic, black art, quick change artists, myste-
rious appearances and vanishes, vaudeville style bal-
ancing acts and pantomime, Las Vegas like illusions
oh, yes - a few doves as well!!
Enough to say that our Ring was very well
represented. The best part of the weekend for Ring
129 was the induction of our own Roger Miller at the
International President What a proud night when
Roger took the reins as IBM's new leader. Best wishes
Roger - we are behind you all the way!. If you at-
tended, then you know what a great time you had. If
you did not attend, then talk to some of those that did
to learn of what you may have missed, and make
plans now to join us for next year’s convention.

Pizza Party a Welcome Break from the
regular routine
Last Sunday was a great day in this year's Ring
events. It was our Annual Pizza Party held at the
Best Western Conference Center. Over 30 people
attended and there was LOTS of magic exchanged
between magic Ring members and family members.
Lots of coins, Ropes, ring and ropes, and even some
stage was evidenced being performed around the
room. With pizza and sodas in hand, it was a fun day
and benefited all that attended. Suggestions came up
that this should not be the only event like this as it
was so great to exchange ideas and how to do some-
thing better or different. The over 30 people that
were there can testify to how encouraging everyone
was and that we will look forward to other events
like this to learn and teach. A special thanks to Al
Sawyer for coordinating the event for the Ring.

Close-up Contest Approaching Fast!! By Alan Goodheart

It’s time for the summer’s Grand event - Ring 129’s
famed Close-up Magician of the Year Contest. Mark
your calendars for Saturday, July 30th. This year’s
contest is easy to find. You can come to the same
location where we used to hold our monthly meet-
ings- at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850
Rosewood in Roeland Park. The doors open at 5:30
pm, and dinner will begin sharply at 6 pm. Then
around 7:00 p.m., we will adjourn to class rooms
next to the gym for the actual Close-up contest. The
contestants will make their way from room to room
performing their unique blend of magic. Then after
the contest ends, we go back to dining area for a spe-
cial part of the evening - to experience a wonderful
dessert While judges are tallying the results of the
contest, entertainment will be going on, and of
course, we will announce the winners of the contest
as the results are calculated.
We are following in the same manner we pro-
duced the show last year and the way the IBM con-
ducts its close-up contest and show at our conven-
tion. There will be no bad seats in the house. And
you can be part of one of the best events of the sea-
son.
So do not hesitate - make your reservations as soon
as you can to reserve your spot. You need to contact
Julia Clark at 816- as soon as possible to make your
reservations. Prices this year for dinner, the close-up
show, and dessert are ONLY $12.50 PER PERSON
- UNBELIEVEABLE! That is for anyone - mem-
bers, SC, guests and kids!!! Please be sure not to
miss this great event!!
Congrats to a Member!
It was brought to our attention that Congratula-
tions are in order to our own Terry Maggelssen
and his new bride, Carol. They recently (6/6) tied
the knot, and are currently building their "Magic
House" with hidden rooms and moving stairs.
