‫‪society. We are now used to paying for many things with cards instead of‬‬
‫‪cash. It’s now common around the world to hand over your debit or credit‬‬
‫‪card in shops, hotels and restaurants. You put your card in a reader, type‬‬
‫‪in your PIN and that’s it. It’s simpler and safer than carrying around large‬‬
‫‪amounts of cash. Cash is still more popular for small purchases though. If‬‬
‫‪you’re buying a newspaper or a cup of coffee, you’ll probably pay by‬‬
‫‪cash. Even in developed countries such as the UK, more than half of all‬‬
‫‪sales are still in cash.‬‬

‫‪change. Shoppers in South Korea have already started using the new‬‬
