INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR VOLTAGE REGULATOR Je Boo smeai 2 BASLER ELECTRIC, BOX 269, INTRODUCTION ‘The VRE3-4A/UL Votage Regulators are signed for use on 50/60 Hz brushless. generators. The regulstor includes frequency ‘Compensation, overexcitaion shutdown, a sold state bul ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS De Output Power 4 Ade at 63 Ve (252) maximum continuous, “7 Ade at 100 Vde (700W) forcing one minute (@t 240 Vac input), Exciter Field De Resistance: 48 ohms minimum; 100 ohms maximum. ‘Ac Power Input: ‘Operating range: 190 Vac to 240 Vac 10% ‘Single phase, 50/60 Hz, Burden 500 VA. ‘Sensing Input: 100-120 Vac, Single phase, SOO Hz 310%, 1 VA burden: Voltage Adjust Range: 90-132 Vac, Regulation Accuracy: Better than 41.0% no oad to ful load Response Time: Less than 1.5 cycles for 45% change in sensing voltage, EMI Suppression: Informal electromagnetic interference fiter (EMI ‘iter, Overexcitation Shutdown: ‘Output powers removed under the folowing Conditions: Exciter field votage exceeds 100 45 ‘de for a time inversely proportional to voltage magnitude, or within 0.2 seconds if te exctter Tied volage exceeds 195 15 Vdc. Voltage Build-up: Internal provisions for automatic voltage bulkt-up from generator residual voltages as low as 10 Vee. Power Dissipation: {8 Watts maximum, PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Operating Temperature: “40° C (-40"F) to +60" C (#140° F), Storage Temperature: 05° C (-85" F) to +85" © (+185° F) Vibration: Withstands 1.3 Gs at 2 to 26 He; 0.036" double amplitude at 28 to 50 Hz; and 5 Gs at $0 to 500 Withstands up to 15 Gs in each of three mutually perpendicular aves, HIGHLAND, 1L 62248 Weight: 44.02, (0.40 kg) Net CSA Approved UL Recognized FUSES It Is recommended that fuses with high Interruption capably be installed per the inter- connection cagrar to protect wiring from faults before the regulator. Insta 5 A, 250 V fuses vith @ high interruption capability in the lines 3 and 4. Refer to the inerconnection Diagrams. NOTE Fuse must be installed per the Interconnection diagrams to avoid inter- ruptng the feld current mouNTING The regulator may be mounted in any postion Refer tothe Dring Diagram Al LA +o——6® 5.1) DIA, | (2 LACES) ate | © Setar see Go) ue ao 0.39 (9.8) DA merge ES EN 231 Zs AR — 3+ Babe Brena roc seem wt a See erg nis ores eee CAUTION The de resistance of the exciter field must be equal to or greater than 15 obs. and POWERISENSING INPUT CIRCUIT (wires 3 ‘and 4) Connect as shown by the Interconnection Diagrams. PHONE 618/654-2341 FAK 618/664-2381 Power forthe excler field and regulator culty is dorived from the generator output or auxdiary Winding. The operable power input range is 90 0 132 Vac. For sensing, single-phase voltage from the ‘generator is connected between Et and 4. Note thal terminal 4 is common to both power and sensing FREQUENCY COMPENSATION “The trequency compensation characteristic is to improve system load pickup performance by restraining voltage recovery unti frequency has ‘also stared to recover. “The regulator is preset al the factory for 45 Hz ‘comer frequency’ for 50 Hz system. For 60 Hz system, a 55 Hz “corner frequency” is achieved by disconnecting the edernal Hz leads. Be sure to insulate the disconnection Frequency Compensation Curves OVEREXCITATION SHUTDOWN. It the exciter field voltage exceeds 100 #5 Vée, the regulator automatically removes the field current after a time delay. The time delay is inversely proportional to the magnitude of the detected avervottage condition up to the 135 45 ‘de point. Beyond 135 45 Ve, the feld votage {is removed within 0.2 seconds, ‘After shutdown, reset the regulator by ‘decteasing voltage below 6 Vac either by stopping the prime mover or Interupting the regulator input witha reset switch for 2 seconds Le, LT Typical Time Delay Characteristic Curves VOLTAGE ADJUST RHEOSTAT (VAR) . FIELD FLASHING When the reguator is operated with the Generator for the first time, the polarity of Tesidual magnetism may not correct or the magnitude not enough. If the generstor does rot build-up after startup, shut down the prime ‘mover and proceed withthe folowing steps: a. Wirth the prime mover at rest, apply a de Source (not grounded) of not more than 12V, to terminals F+(postive) and F- (negative) in series with @ iting resistor of 35 ons, b. Allow approximately 3. seconds. before removing the de source. ©. Start prime mover and measure vottage at tegulater leads 3 and 4. If votage is ‘greater than 6 vols, voltage build-up should be successful. Repeat field flashing procedure if less than 6 V residual is measured. d. If repeating steps 1 and 2 does not resut in generator voltage buld-up, replace the voltage regulator. ase NoTes Ev H2 AEA ok 2 Fag Rowe Wan Fae A age BO woo, b AN stn, HF =B/Pqa TET eh VR63- 4A gr z]F=B7Fa]4 TE [VAR] VaR VR63—4A wey Interconnection Diagram, 208/240 V Nominal Interconnection Dagan, 120V Generator with Autry Winding O Hic INTERRUPT 240 Vac, 60 HZ NOTE: AA two 120 vou eues LESS ‘aw Too" warts Operational Test
