“Odyssey: Hellenic Wings - Act I” for IL2FB+AEP+PFv.4.

01m or newer,
is the first part of a two Act Campaign for Greek fighter-pilot during the entire saga of
WWII. This first Act is referred to the Greek-Italian war (1940-’41) until the German
invasion – occupation of Greece, (Crete invasion apart). Player flies PZL11 as PZL24
and J-8 as Gloster Gladiator Mark I. The second Act is under production and should be
referred to the Campaign of the evaded Greek pilot in North Africa – Italy where will be
formed the first two RHAF (Royal Hellenic AF) Fighter Squadrons (335th-336th), under
RAF commands, as part of the Balkan Forces. Pilot will fly J-8 as Gloster Gladiator, P-40
Tomahawk as advanced trainer, Hurricane MkI & IIc, Spitfire Vb & Spitfire Vc. Look
around (probably where you’ve downloaded OHW ActI) for the release of the second part:
ActII. Act I is only for IL2FB+AEP+PFv.4.01m or newer.
Few words about…
“Odyssey: Hellenic Wings - Act I” is based on real events and mission typology but cannot
be considered as 100% historical, by no means. First of all the lack of appropriate
scenery renders it impossible to reproduce the exact physiology of the airwar fought over
Greece and Albania during 1940-1941. Distances aren’t the same and so do the names
and placements of the various locations. Secondly, the lack of some aircraft (especially
Italian Bombers) induced me to use other planes “skinned” as Italian ones. For example:
R10 is used as Breda Ba65, Ju52 as SM81, SB2-M100 as another Italian bomber (lets
say a CANT) while for the Greek part, Su2 simulates the Bloch 151. One more necessary
inaccuracy is referred to the numbers of the planes taking part in every mission. In real
terms, Reggia Aeronautica counted some 179 fighters (mostly CR.42, G.50 and some
CR.32 and MC.200) destined to operate
in the Greek campaign plus an important
and variable number of bombers to use at
will (including the Sparviero that run faster
than any Greek fighter). On the contrary
Greece proposed the small number of 36
PZLs (only 24 of them operational), some
9 problematic Bloch 151s (engine
problems mostly) plus some other planes
(old Blenheims for ex.). Greeks received
precious reinforcements by RAF
(Gladiator Sqns + Blenheims) plus some
Gloster Gladiators for proper use in
December 1941. Between the heroic RAF pilots that came with the reinforcements was
M.Pattle who died with honor, fighting next to the Greeks. In most dogfights Greek
planes were outnumbered, doubled and there are some cases that were even tripled by
the Italian ones like in the case of 9 February 1941 when 4 Greek Glosters + 8 Greek
PZLs fought in an epic combat against 18 SM.79 Sparvieros + 12 CR.42s + 12 G.50s of
the Reggia Aeronautica. Greeks downed 8 enemy planes while suffering 1 heavily
damaged that was destroyed when crash-landed on the airfield (pilot survived). In game
terms such numerical supremacy by the Italians would prevent the player from surviving
in almost half of the missions, so I thought to decrease the number of the Italian fighters
in every combat relatively to the real events. I preferred
decreasing the number instead of throwing the entire AI
level to Rookie because the Italian pilots were pretty
skilled and well trained at the time and some of them
were experienced Spain’s civil war veterans. The same
thing happens when the Luftwaffe enters in scene for
identical reasons.
Though, I tried to be as accurate as possible but mostly I
tried to create the correct atmosphere. First of all this is a
game and differs a lot from reality for one reason. In a
simulator you can do things and dogfights that real pilots
may never did. So a virtual pilot could have more tactical knowledge from a real pilot of
that time because he can “fly, die and then hit refly” (as someone intelligently said once in
the HL making me smile… sorry if I do not recall his nickname). For the real pilots at the
time, a simple engine stall or guns block, during a dogfight was enough to kill them. So
experience and tactical thought
really cost lives in reality. This is
mentioned to give the heroes of that
awful war the credits they deserve.
When I say Heroes I mean all the
Greek pilots, RAF or Italian ones,
even those who the only thing they
managed to do was to bring back
the plane intact. But mainly, the
“heroes” goes to those who paid the
ultimate price for their Ideals, while
others didn’t pay a thing for the
same ones.…….

How to play…..
Well the campaign can be found under RAF campaign folder. Choose it and go for it!!
All missions are tested and passed at high realism settings (only “flightmap path” on). For
god’s sake disable “icons” as I didn’t cure them at all…. As for the “speedbar” and the
“flightmap path”, you can keep’em on (especially the second is the only necessary).
This campaign can be played with any rank.
All missions can be flown with autopilot but the autopilot does not guarantee a “MISSION
COMPLETE” message.
I encourage you to watch the Intros as I cured them and as in some case show parts of
the objective.
Missions are passed when Primary objective is accomplished. In some cases the primary
objective is an air or ground target and the mission can be ended as soon as the Mission
Complete message appears, without
having to land the airplane. In other
cases, when defending a flight or a
location, the Mission Complete
message will appear after some
specific time so you must fight at
your best till then. On the contrary,
sometimes, when the most difficult
thing is getting back landed, the
message appears when landed
successfully...
Please read the entire Briefing as it
contains valuable clues for the
mission.
Give importance to the final line in
the briefing, that shows which skin to use and whether to use markings or not.
File info & EULA….
Well you should have downloaded a Odyssey_ActI.rar file containing one small.jpg, one
ID.txt, one Odyssey_ActI_readme.pdf, one Odyssey_ActI_setup.exe and finally one
Icon_setup.exe. The two first ones
contained in the *.rar, are destined to
the various moderators who will upload
this Campaign. The last three are yours.
The *.pdf file should be the file you are
reading while the *.exes are the files to
be run. I guarantee that the contents of
this entire *.rar are not spy-ad ware or
virus affected at least when given to
each moderator. Though guaranteeing, I
(Moris George) have no responsibility
for any problems-harms caused in any
means by this program. It’s a simple
add-on and no one is obliged to use it.
Install program is checked and
functioning and in no test harmed any
tester’s Hard/Software, nor the main program’s functionality (intending IL2Forgotten
Battles+ AEP+PF v.4.01m).
Moderators of the sites, where you may find this program, are by no means responsible
for its contents and in order to maintain this non-responsibility on the content, are by no
means authorized to alter it. No political – religious messages are proposed in this
program’s text documents nor is Historical accuracy guaranteed. The texts are respectful
of everyone and would not verbally offend anyone, at least on purpose. Even in the case
some of the above happen involuntarily, YOU (End User) are provided with all necessary
indications of how avoiding the installation of this program or of how uninstalling it.

Installation…..
Please note that this campaign is not standalone and requires IL2FB+AEP+PFv.4.01m or
newer)
The Odyssey_ActI_setup.exe file will install the campaign for you. Only in case you
installed the game in a different address rather than the default, should you change the
destination folder address, when prompted. In any time during the installation process, hit
Cancel if you do not agree with any of the terms of service mentioned by the readme
files.
-This installation program will install the Campaign missions and Intro videos in the
following address:
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\Missions\Campaign\GB
under a folder named Odyssey_ActI
-In the same time the skins will be installed in the address:
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\PaintSchemes\Skins
under each planes folder.
-Finally, the same Odyssey_actI_readme.pdf file that you are reading at the moment will
be placed in the main game’s folder:
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles
-The second installation program Icon_setup.exe will also change the loadscreen of the
RAF’s campaign sector and the RAF icon as seen below, replacing the ones (icon.tga,
background.tga) you have in the address:
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\Missions\Campaign\GB
It is not important for the campaign’s playability whether to install the Icon or not. Install it,
only if you like it.

Uninstall…..
Uninstall must be committed manually.
Take under consideration that before uninstalling “ODYSSEY Act I” you must delete it
from the “PILOT CAREER” catalog, within the game’s interface. Deleting the folder
Odyssey_ActI without doing so, will in any case result in the loss of any saved campaigns you may play,
and you will have to start them from the beginning.
-To uninstall the main campaign folder, simply delete the folder Odyssey_ActI found in:
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\Missions\Campaign\GB
-To uninstall skins you should go to each planes folder and erase the skins manually
(C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\PaintSchemes\Skins). The
list below indicates the skins used and where to find them.
