ACI (AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE)

Good afternoon, my name is Nelson Bolaño, in this opportunity I’m going to talk
about ACI (AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE). This has been a very important
organization for the study of concrete and the development of engineering.
The American Concrete Institute (ACI) is a technical education organization for
society founded in 1904 and is one of the world's leading authorities in the
management and practice of concrete. It is responsible for developing standards,
norms and technical recommendations with reference to reinforced concrete.
The ACI also presents a forum for the discussion of all topics related to concrete and
the development of solutions to problems; this forum is carried out through
conventions, meetings. Members elect one of 18 members to be responsible for the
Board of Directors, which is responsible for the general administration of the
Institute, including the development of policies to promote the objectives of the ACI.
The ACI Board meets twice a year to examine topics such as budget, policy revision
or adoption, pre-established plans, chapter activities, and other administrative
matters.
The Institute currently has an extensive program of publications, including national
standards, committee reports, periodicals, certification manuals, educational
publications, and videos. ACI has more than 100 chapters, 215 (two hundred fifteen)
student chapters, and 30,000 (thirty thousand) members spanning over 120
countries.
The American Concrete Institute publishes 2 magazines bimonthly called the ACI
Structural Journal and ACI Journal Materials. These magazines contain valuable
information about structural research, materials research, design theory, structural
analysis, and technique-related commentary. It also publishes a monthly Concrete
International magazine, offering timely information on concrete construction,
design, products, materials, technology, and others.
Lastly, the American Concrete Institute offers many opportunities for students and
researchers, including scholarships and the publication of their work or articles on
concrete-related projects.
Thank you very much for your attention.
