The Internet is clearly the television of the 21st century, an electronic drug that often
yanks us away from the physical world. In the development of modern communication
technology, a rise of various social media platforms has been evident. Due to a vast
technological change, these media have somehow become a requirement for us. Individuals
nowadays, have 3 to more social media accounts. Personally, I have 8 social media accounts;
some are used for storing information, some are photo-sharing platforms and the others are for
daily communication basis. In these accounts, I share my photos, videos, write-ups and I also get
to read and enjoy contents from other people. However, I have observed that people used these
innovations in an underrated way. Most of what we see online are just products of people who
want to impress or show-off themselves. It dictates us of how we understand the real meaning of
beauty to which we feel less of a person and insecure.

For me, beauty is beyond what meets the eye. It is more than a skinny body, perfectly
brushed brows, rosy cheeks and red lips. We all have our definition on what beautiful is and it is
on how we appreciate and see something behind imperfections. Beauty encompasses both inner
and external qualities of a person; mode of dressing, manner of walking, posture, complexion,
facial expression, personality, and kindness. When we start to know someone, all their physical
characteristic start to disappear. We begin to dwell in their energy, and see only the essence of
the person, not the shell. Thus, beauty cannot be measured with what attracts the eye.

Is beauty a product of heredity or environment? Some people are fortunate to possess

features from genes that adhere to standardized ideals of beauty. On the other hand, our bodies
are not only biological but also cultural, we shape and manipulate our bodies according to our
environment. We adhere to certain norms of beauty and appearance. We decide how to dress and
style, we manage how we weigh through diet and exercise and improve our bodies to extreme
levels of surgically enhancing our appearances. Therefore, beauty is a product of both heredity
and environment.
