The role of teachers and students in teaching learning process is reversible.

There
was a time when everyone thought it is teacher’s job to transmit knowledge to the
student. But now a day the main task of a teacher to encourage and give the scope to
acquire knowledge to the students. In this way teacher and students make a class
fruitful. We started our Practicum getting that idea. Where we spent some time to
complete our Practice teaching. I got a chance to complete my practicum in University
Laboratory School & College. As a part of practicum, first of all we observed some
classes in the school as a part of practicum. And as a matter of practicum, it is needed to
submit ten observation reports. But we observed classes with the permission of the
school authority. Especially the school authority made our observation schedule so that
we couldn’t observe at least ten classes though we were interested. I got chance to
observe 3 classes only. (For some official reasons we had started our practice teaching
at school in a quite late, comparison to the other group.)

To submit any lesson there are some techniques. And to present a lesson, it is needed to
mix up own method with these techniques. According to Harvard’s five steps there are
five steps to present any lesson in the classroom. They are:
(a) Preparation
(b) Presentation
(c) Generalization
(d) Application
(e) Evaluation

We tried to observe more than Harvard’s fifth steps with various steps. According to the
present situation is such as there are various problems in the schools so that a teacher
can’t present a lesson as he want or he can’t make his lesson plan to give priority in all
the steps. So I present my class observation with both of some common strong and
weak points. There are some salutations after the observation to present a good class.
But teacher’s sincerity and responsibility is needed for that.

Observation Class- 01
Subject: General Science
Class: VII
Section: A
Total Students: 44
The Strong Points

(a) According to school rule the students do their classroom arrangement activity
so class and seating arrangement is organized.
(b) The presentation style of the teacher was good. To describe lights, Shade, Sub
shade – the teacher told a story related to his life. Students’ attention can be
made under control by this way. Besides his voice, language skill, relation
between him and the students were remarkable.
(c) He gave the students home work which is essential and important.

The Weak Points


(a) For the motivation of the class, the teacher is not interested. He noticed what
the lesson was in the previous class and he was starting the lesson.
(b) The teacher was also not interested about the methods of teaching. He only
used the lecture method.
(c) The teacher didn’t use any teaching material for the lesson. But he had
enough scope to make the lesson joyful by using teaching materials.
(d) To evaluate the class the teacher said to the students to draw a picture about
the lunar eclipse. But he didn’t give any direction how to draw it. He also
didn’t see their work.

Solutions for the class


I want to give some solution about the class so that the class would be joyful.
(a) To start the class motivation is a great thing and with that, the attention of the
students can be made under control.
(b) Any scientific things will be an easy one to the students when they can match
it with their real life. So there was enough scope to use teaching material in the
class. He could also use various methods to make the class more enjoyable.
(c) To evaluate the class teacher will be concerned about what he did and he
must give the task as the students did that in the class or in the previous class.

The Strong Points

(a) According to school rule the students do their classroom arrangement activity
so class and seating arrangement is organized
(b) The teacher motivated the students by asking questions given homework in
the previous class.
(c) Though the teacher didn’t use any teaching aid but he drawn some pictures in
the board which attracted the students very much.
(d) The teacher was concerned to make sure the participation of the students in
the class. He used Questioning and Answering method to participate all the
students in the class.
(e) He gave homework which is really essential.
(f) The presentation style of the teacher, knowledge about the topic and
preparation was good. Besides the behavior with the students was
remarkable.
(g) He evaluated the students, gave homework and he wrote it on the board.
(h) The main attraction was that the teacher finished a large chapter in a short in
a short time very easily.

The Weak Points


(a) Teacher got preparation but there was no lesson plan.
(b) He didn’t exchange greetings with the students.
(c) He declared the lesson but did not write down in the board.

Solutions for the class


I want to give some solution about the class so that the class would be joyful.

(a) It is necessary to have a lesson plan.


(b) By exchanging greetings with the students they can be easy in the classroom.
(c) Topic must be written in the board and movement is needed in the classroom.
(d) Teaching material can make easy to understand the term of science easily.
(e) The way of evaluation can be made better.

The Strong Points

(a) According to school rule the students do their classroom arrangement activity
so class and seating arrangement is organized.
(b) To enter into the lesson the teacher gave motivation.
(c) The teacher announced the topic and wrote down in the board.
(d) Class management was very good.
(e) He used the board many times as needed.
(f) He evaluated the students and discussed against that.
The Weak Points
(a) There was no lesson plan for the class.
(b) There was no exchange greeting with the students.
(c) He didn’t move all over the class.
(d) He didn’t give attention to all the students in the class. So some students
didn’t find any interest in the class.
(e) The way to write wasn’t good. That’s why when the teacher wrote in the
board the students were making noise.

Solutions for the class


(a) Movement in the classroom can make the class well managed. So the teacher
may moved in the classroom.
(b) While teaching the teacher should give attention to all the students in the
class.
(c) When the teacher wants to write in the board he must stand as though no
students can make chance to make a noise.

Still now the teachers are following the ancient theory for teaching. But now a day
the teaching learning process is developed by using various steps. Here are some
solutions to improve the teaching learning process.

Lesson Plan
Every teacher should have lesson plan. By using plan the class will be well
managed.

Exchange Greetings
If the teacher exchange greetings with the students then student can think that
the teacher give attention and he also feels comfortable in the class.

Teaching Materials
By using teaching material teacher can make the class more enjoyable. And the
students also should find interest in the classroom.

Classroom management
Classroom Management is also a big factor. If the class is in well management the
teacher can easily teach them and help them to acquire knowledge.

Methods
By using various methods the teacher could manage the class easily. The students
also get interest if the teacher uses various kinds of methods.
In this way a teacher can make a class more and more enjoyable and helps the student
to acquire knowledge.
