To set up The Complete Herman Collection: 1 Insert the compact disc into your CD-ROM drive. 2. Follow The Complete Herman Collection's auto-run prompt to click on a graphic to install. Or, if the auto-run feature of Windows 95 isn't enabled on your system, click the Start button and choose the Run command. In the Run dialog box, type "D:\SETUP-EXE", where D represents the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive. Then click the OK button. A message is displayed when the setup is complete. Once The Complete Herman Collection has started, it displays the main window with a title page. You can now start to enjoy the distinctive humor and wit of Jim Unger's Herman. The following pages describe some of the main functions available to you. The Viewing panel displays the cartoons while the forward and reverse browser buttons allow you to move through the collection, one cartoon at a time.Viewing cartoons from the collections The Complete Herman Collection allows you to browse through different collections of Herman cartoons. You can choose to view the cartoons by category, treasury, your collected favorites, color strips, color single frames or all cartoons. Collection name | Displays cartoons that are... Category based on a theme such as medical, sports, etc. Treasury from one or alll of the eight treasuries that were published as books. Favorites from a collection of favorites that you create. Strips multiple panels in full color. Color single panel in full color. Bookmark from the collection of cartoons to which you added a bookmark. All cartoons from all of the above collections. To view cartoons from a collection: 1. Choose the Browse Wizard menu. 2. From the Browse Wizard dialog box, choose the collection that contains the cartoons you want to view. 3. Click the Finish button. 4. For more detailed information on each of the options, see the online help. Creating a collection of favorite cartoons As you enjoy each of the cartoons in The Complete Herman Collection, you will undoubtedly find some that you consider funnier than others. You can add these to your own collection of favorites for later viewing. You can use your Favorites collection whenever you run a slide show or browse through the cartoons manually. To add a cartoon to your collection of favorites: 1. Display the cartoon you want to add. 2. From the Favorite menu, choose the Add Cartoon as a favorite selection To remove a cartoon from your collection of favorites: 1. Display the cartoon you want to remove. 2. From the Favorite menu, choose the Remove Cartoon from the favorite selections command. Creating a slide show To make viewing easier, you can set The Complete Herman Collection to automatically display a series of cartoons. The slide show displays cartoons sequentially at a time interval you select. When you select Slide Show, you're prompted to enter the viewing time for each cartoon. The time can be from 1 to 99 seconds; however, the minimum time to display the cartoons depends on the speed of your computer and the speed of your CD-ROM drive. After you specify the viewing time, you're prompted to select the cartoon category that you want to include in the slide show. Once you've selected a category, you can sit back and watch the show.To start a slide show: 1. Click the Slide Show menu. 2. Type the number of seconds you want to view each cartoon and click Next. 3. Select the collection you want to view and click Finish. To stop a slide show: 1. Press the Esc key on your keyboard. Changing system wallpaper You can use any of the Herman cartoons as your Windows 95 wallpaper. When you find acartoon you would like to use, simply click the Wallpaper menu. A Windows Bitmap (BMP) file is created in the directory where you've installed Windows 95 and your wallpaper is immediately changed to the selected cartoon. Each time you change cartoons, the new cartoon is written to the same BMP file. To change the system wallpaper: 1. Click the Wallpaper menu. 2. Click OK. Working with bookmarks As you look through The Complete Herman Collection, you may need to exit from the collection or you may want to mark a favorite cartoon. Bookmarks allow you to return directly to a specific image any time you run The Complete Herman Collection. To insert a bookmark: 1. Display the cartoon you want to mark with a bookmark. 2, From the Bookmark menu, choose the Save Bookmark command, To load a bookmark: 1. From the Bookmark menu, choose the Load Bookmark command. 2. From the Bookmark list, select the bookmark you want to load. 3. Click the OK button. Saving, copying and printing cartoons The Complete Herman Collection allows you to copy, save and print* any of the cartoons in the collection. Saving a cartoon creates a Windows Bitmap (BMP) file in a directory you select. You can then open the BMP file in other applications such as Windows Paintbrush. Copying places a duplicate of the current Herman cartoon on the Windows clipboard. Once the cartoon is copied to the clipboard, you can paste the cartoon into many other applications. You can print any of the cartoons in the collection, but only at one size. If you need to change the size of the printed cartoon, save the cartoon into a file and load that file into a software application, such as Corel PHOTO-PAINT™, that allows you to increase and decrease the size of bitmap images. *NOTE: Print, save and copy options are for personal use only. Using The Complete Herman Collection screen saver When you installed The Complete Herman Collection, a screen saver utility was also installed. This screen saver allows your system to display Herman cartoons whenever it has been inactive for a specific length of time. To configure The Complete Herman Collection screen saver: 1. Click the Start button and choose Settings. 2. From the Settings menu, choose Control Panel. 3. From the Control Panel, double-click the Display icon.4, In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Screen Saver tab. 5. From the Screen Saver list box, choose Herman. 6. Click the Settings button. 7. Choose the collection of cartoons you want displayed by the screen saver. 8. Click the OK button.
