1. Darwin is located in the tropical north of Australia, and is the gateway to Asia
2. Darwin has a tropical monsoon climate with a wet season during the summer months and a
dry season in the winter. Darwin has 1706.5 millimetres of rainfall annually and is Australia’s
wettest capital. There is very little temperature variation due to it being so close to the equator.
3. Darwin’s climate has led to a relaxed lifestyle which encourages outdoor living.
4. Most buildings in Darwin are very new as most things had to be rebuilt. New building
standards were introduced which has led to safer houses. Safety procedures are broadcasted
on radio and TV to ensure the safety of the Darwin community
