Face Velocities

The average air velocity face of a hood intended for standard use shall be at least 100 linear
feet per minute (fpm) with a minimum of 70 fpm at any measured point. Maximum face velocity
should not exceed 150 fpm. Designers may choose to design to 110 fpm, to allow for a margin
of error in balancing and measurements.
